The iPhone 5 hype is building to a fevered pitch lately with more rumors that you can shake a stick at. Today a photo that was supposedly taken using an iPhone 5 camera has surfaced. The photo apparently hints it was taken with an iPhone 4. However, the EXIF data doesn’t match that.

The EXIF data shows that the photo was cropped to 5MP from its original 8MP size. The iPhone 5 is said to have an 8MP camera. The location data suggests that the photo came from Cupertino whilst someone with the phone was having lunch. That iPhone 5 might be close but the iPhone 4 is still selling well.

The iPhone 4 has still been the top selling phone on AT&T and Verizon. On AT&T the iPhone 3GS is still the second most popular smartphone. The devices show no signs of letting up either.

A new iPhone app has landed called Meal Snap iPhone for DailyBurn. It helps those that are dieting to get an estimated calorie count by snapping a picture of the meal and giving them a range of calories.

Police in Paterson, NJ are warning people that are trying to sell used iPhones of thieves that might target them. Apparently, the people are being targeted from ads on Craig’s List and when they show up thinking they are selling the iPhone three armed thieves take their belongings.

A new study from ChangeWave has found that the iPhone on the AT&T network drops 2.5 times more calls than the iPhone on Verizon. I don’t think anyone on AT&T is surprised by that number.

A rendering of what is supposed to be a case for the coming iPhone 5 has surfaced. The design, if accurate, looks to be the same as the iPhone 4 today so no major outward changes are to be seen.

The Wrapsol protective films that keep scratches and glare away have been redesigned. The new design puts installation tabs on the film to help you not get fingerprints all over the adhesive.

According to an ad tracker, 12% of the data traffic on the Verizon network is attributed to the iPhone already. That s a lot of traffic considering the phone has barely been around a month now.

The report also claimed that the AT&T device completed 10% more downloads in a moving vehicle than the Verizon offering.

A new app is available for the iPhone called PlugShare that is a community driven charging network for EV drivers. The app allows users to browse for public charging stations and share electricity with others.

Verizon tried to woo early adopters of the iPhone on its network by offering up an unlimited $30 monthly unlimited data plan for the smartphone. Verizon CFO Fran Shammo noted at an investor conference that the unlimited plan was not a long-term solution hinting it would be ending.

You might recall that Microsoft sued Apple claiming that the App Store trademark was too generic. Apple has noted that the term Windows is generic too and Microsoft has fought to keep that trademark vigorously.

A new report has surfaced that claims a million iPhone 4 smartphones were sold on the Verizon network the first weekend. AT&T moved 1.4 million iPhones on the opening weekend on its network so it seems sales on Verizon were strong despite the lack of lines at stores.

Analyst Sam Greenholtz claims that the iPhone 5 landing this summer will not get LTE support according to his sources.

The new subscription policies on iTunes have Amazon looking for work arounds for its Kindle app. The answer by Amazon rather than lose an estimated $160 million yearly is to design a Kindle for the Web app that iPhone users can take advantage of.

The mom of the girl who downloaded the winning app hung up on Apple.
Apple has unified the advertisements for the iPhone 4 on AT&T and Verizon. The new ads tout two is better than one and shows the devices running side by side.

Evidence has been spied in the code of iTunes that points to Qualcomm offering baseband chips for the iPhone and iPad. Rumors have circulated that Qualcomm baseband would be inside the iPhone 5 and might be inside the Verizon iPhone.

Starbucks has launched its official iPhone mobile payments app. The app lets users buy coffee in the store by scanning a bar code on the iPhone screen at checkout.

Verizon is offering customers that bought a new device on the network from late November 2010 to early January 2011 a $200 rebate if they upgrade to an iPhone 4.
