If it’s love you are in, the economy is no excuse. Austrian jeweller Peter Aloisson has crafted the “Kings Button,” a diamond-encrusted iPhone whose name refers to the 6.6-carat diamond planted on top of the handset’s Home button.

There are a few apps, quirks and possible scams out there that encourage those with too much money to blow it on literally nothing. One example is the “I Am Rich” app, which for $999.99 you can get a glowing stone to appear on your screen. That is all it does. (Apparently it does bring good fortune, luck and health. For a grand, I’d rather buy shoes, three outfits, go to a movie and fill the car with fuel, that makes me feel lucky!)

As for the diamond phone, the case is made out of solid 18-carat yellow, white and rose gold. Aloisson finished it off by outlining the case with a white gold line encrusted with 138 diamonds of “the best quality.” The estimated value: $2,517,345. No word on if there will be a matching set of ear rings. This iPhone is certainly something. I can only hear my dad saying “the smaller and heavier something is, the more expensive”. By that thought, this should weigh more than my car full of fuel. Is it worth mentioning my birth stone is diamonds?

Love does not mean you have to like the same kind of music. The dual-dock iLuv iMM173 is an alarm clock outfitted with two iPod docks, one working with your iPhone.

The black, shiny plastic iMM173, which measures 3.4 by 11.2 by 7.2 inches (HWD), has a rounded, contoured casing, with stereo speakers separated by the 4.2-inch LCD. Listed at $149.99 the clock includes a magnetic remote-control holder on the back panel, FM antenna, headphone jack, AC input and a 3.5mm aux input. A switch labeled DST automatically adjusts the clock an hour ahead or behind for Daylight Saving Time.

The iMM173 works with the iPhone however only on the right-hand dock. It has been noted that on the first occasion of docking your iPhone a warning may appear. The device may state that it is not an iPhone-compatible accessory and you need to enter Airplane Mode to disable the phone functions. Subsequent docking will see the warning disappear with no need to worry about receiving calls. The clock offers 4 sources to setting your alarm through either the iPod(s), iPhone, FM or buzzer. Waking up just got more technical.

Style.com of Vogue Magazine recently had the pleasure of interviewing Mr and Mrs Gates. Bill Gates is best known for his part in Microsoft, although his wife Melinda seemingly sometimes lusts for the competitor.

Melinda Gates, together with Bill, manage the Gates Foundation, which admits that little could be accomplished without its wealth. However the philanthropy’s true power lies in its willingness to apply the merciless principles of the business world to charity.

Around the house however and through a rare insight to the personal Mrs Gates she admits, “there are very few things that are on the banned list in our household,” Gates told Vogue. “But iPods and iPhones are two things we don’t get for our kids.” Gates acknowledges the inevitable lure of forbidden fruit. “Every now and then, I look at my friends and say, ‘Ooh, I wouldn’t mind having that iPhone.’” Will she bite the Apple?

Coming in after the Nintendo Wii and your trusted iPod, the 3G iPhone placed third. The Wii was declared the winner proving that there is still that “huge appeal in the concept of sharing time and space with friends and loved ones.” Does this mean that is the iPhone could take the lead if the brilliance of downloadable apps continues? Or is actual physical interaction with humans just so 2001?

The Gadget Helpline is the latest in a series of services offering to explain modern-day technology. While more complex goods are being developed and released, 70 experts are available on the Helpline keeping up with the curve to help everyone and anyone. Available as a member based service, Gadget Helpline is free for 30 days then £2.99 (inc. VAT) each month with calls charged at 5p a minute. Through running the survey, the site listed the following as the gadgets that made Britains the most happy:

iPod

iPhone 3G

Xbox 360

No matter your age or even device, Mobigrip is apparently ‘the’ safety belt for digital toys, like your ever important iPhone. Hindsight being the devil she is, this would have been perfect for me, however my phone was already on the ground and the projectile in question was a nail-polish bottle.

Taking $10 from your wallet to keep your phone more safely in you hands, the Mobigrip is available in a range of colours including black, white, red, graphite and green. You could go as far as to ordering your Mobigrip with a fireball motif or even including your own design or photo. To attach, simply peel and stick the grip to the ‘clean’ underside of any hand held device. Then just slip the bungee over your finger.

This addition to your iPhone is developed with safety and a longer life of your toys in mind. I like to think that it was designed specifically to mix modern day chic with country and western role playing. My mind already wonders to an office full of iPhone fans, weapons sitting in the back of their suit-pants, drawing their phone in a mid-office stand off during a battle-to-the-death quick-draw for the last can of coke in the vending machine.

The remote control car loving child in all of us will be jumping for joy with Rinspeed to unveil and iPhone controlled car the iChange, next week. Removing the need for keys, total control of the car can be managed through your iPhone including starting the car, changing any setting and even the shape of the vehicle.

As simple as plugging in your tunes, your iPhone clips into a holder on the dashboard of the iChange. Once connected a green “start” button appears on the iPhone’s display and one push brings the iChange automobile to life reports Macworld. Not only offering a plug and drive system, the iChange can morph from a single-seater sports car to one with a taller roof that can accommodate two extra rear passengers, or really tall people. It also sports an all-electric powertrain and lithium-ion batteries with Rinspeed is claiming a 0-62 time of 4.2 seconds, putting it in the ballpark of the Tesla Roadster.

The iChange comes from designer Frank Rinderknecht of Swiss auto design house Rinspeed, the same Company who brought us last year’s sQuba diving car. It will be revealed as part of an electric car concept vehicle during the Geneva Motor Show next week. Loving the smooth design and futuristic wheel rim, my only thoughts are whether it will stand a test of UK’s BBC Team from Top Gear. The boys measured up the Tesla Roadster in 2008 as “an astonishing technical achievement…it’s just a shame that in the real world, it just doesn’t seem to work”, the sQuba as “impossible”. Discussing the iChange in 2008 as “something special” from Rinspeed, I can only hope the iChange can handle the Stig.
