i-Got-Control universal remote, iLuv ships App Station, Sprint offers to make iPhone 4G

Another new universal remote control hardware/app combo has turned up for the iPhone called i-Got-Control. The device plugs into the charge port, has an IR database, and can learn commands from an existing remote.

iLuv has finally announced that the cool iMM190 App Station clock/speaker dock is shipping. The thing has come down $40 since it was first announced to a new price of $89.99.

Sprint has released a new video that offers to make the iPhone run on 4G networks. The 4G upgrade for the iPhone requires a 4G portable hotspot.

Apple reports record profits, Sprint Nextel to get iPhone, Belkin TuneCast ships

Apple announced its earnings recently and posted profits that increased by 50% compared to the previous year. iPhone sales grew 100% compared to the previous year.

According to analysts Sprint Nextel may start offering the iPhone this fall. I bet the device makes it to all carriers in the country after the AT&T exclusive ends.

The Belkin TuneCast Auto Live accessory for the iPhone is now shipping in America. The device is available for $79.

Walt Mossberg: Samsung Instinct is no iPhone

Walt Mossberg has been playing around with the Samsung Instinct for Sprint for a while now, and has something to say about the device. That is, it is no iPhone. According to Walt, the device is nice, but it is lacking in some areas that he really would have liked the device to excel in. According to him, the interface is just not pretty enough.

“I’ve been testing the Instinct, and while it isn’t a bad phone and has some features the Apple product lacks, it’s no match for the iPhone. The manufacturers haven’t replicated the iPhone’s greatest strength: beautiful, powerful, breakthrough software.” – Walt Mossberg

Strong words against the device. The Instinct will begin shipping on June 20th, meaning it will beat the iPhone 3G out of the gates. The problem is, Sprint has been advertising the devices 3G and GPS, directly targeting the iPhone on that front. Maybe someone should tell them about the iPhone 3G. Mossberg seems to be the few, as many that have reviewed the Instinct found it to be a very nice device.

Sprint spending $100 million to promote its iPhone competitor

Sprint is making good on their promise to spend $100 million to promote their new iPhone competitor, the Samsung Instinct. The advertisements start running on May 9th, but the commercials are now available to view on YouTube. The advertisements very obviously take aim at the iPhone, with some shots showing the two devices side by side.

The advertisements leverage the EV-DO and true GPS that are packed into the Instinct. Sprint is hoping to use that comparison to convince people to buy the Instinct and not the iPhone. Someone should tell Sprint that the 3G iPhone, which could very well have GPS, will pack those features. No doubt Sprint’s Rev. A is fast, but so is HSDPA.

The advertisement conveniently leaves out the obvious fact that the iPhone has more screen real estate, and that it has a capacitive touch screen. The Instinct will no doubt be a good phone, but it will just not be the same appeal and wonder that the iPhone brings. So if you were looking for a tried and true iPhone killer, the Instinct is close, but alas no cigar.
