iOS 4.3 may launch today, Kazaa streaming with no app, Philips iPhone/iPod speakers

Word is that iOS 4.3 might be launching today at about 10am. We first learned about iOS 4.3 at the iPad 2 event earlier this month and the new OS will be welcome.

Kazaa has announced a way to get around that 30% fee Apple wants to charge for digital subscriptions. Anyone with a Kazaa subscription can now go to the Kazaa website and stream all the music they want to the iPhone or iPad with no app needed.

Philips has three new speaker systems that will work with the iPhone. The systems include a multiroom audio HiFi, component HiFi, and a set of AirPlay compatible speakers with iOS apps to control the tunes.

Griffin AirCurve acoustic amplifier for iPhone introduced

The Griffin AirCurve acoustic amplifier dock was announced for the iPhone today. The polycarbonate block is translucent, but it doesn’t just look nice. It’s pretty functional, too.

In fact, this dock has a waveguide that’s coiled so sound is amplified from the iPhone’s speaker. And though you won’t get the best sound quality in the world, you will definitely have louder output, making the iPhone much more suitable as an alarm in this fashion.

It works with batteries or a power adapter and you can even charge or sync your phone while it’s on the dock. The AirCurve will make its debut sometime in October. And it’s seriously cheap. Just $20 will get you this stylish dock that should make setting your alarm (and actually waking up by it) less of a hope and more of a reality.

Phonofone II is shiny, expensive iPod dock

I feel very much like a bird that’s attracted to shiny things right now, but I can’t help myself. Isn’t this Phonofone II beautiful? It’s in the shape of a Victrola and while you may have seen other iPod docks that look like this one in the past, you’ve never seen one that functions like it, that’s for sure.

The Phonofone II – Limited Edition Black is designed by Tristan Zimmerman and while it may look retro, it certainly doesn’t perform like it. No external power source is required. In fact, it outputs sound through just the power of your iPod or iPod touch. Unfortunately, the iPod nano and Shuffle won’t work here, but it’s still pretty cool.

The best types of music to groove to on this old-school treasure are Classical, Blues and Folk. And with classic tastes come hefty price tags. You can get your very own Phonofone II for $600. I gulped aloud when I saw the price, but that doesn’t make this sound amplifier any less pretty.
