It looks like those in Taiwan who went out and picked up the iPhone 3G this weekend after the launch Saturday will be able to use just about any SIM they wish. Initial reports said that Chunghwa Telecom would be selling the iPhone 3G SIM-locked to their network.

Gartner analyzed the numbers for smartphone sales and it looks like the iPhone 3G played a big role in bolstering the market. And even though hard economic times make smartphone purchases difficult for many consumers, the devices are rising in popularity.
