BusinessWeek is talking about the mess that is the AT&T network and the iPhone. The publication points to the popularity of the iPhone as one of the main causes of issues with the network.

Cisco is set to update its iPhone app to allow voice-over-WiFi calls to be placed. Cisco expects the app to be popular for companies that don’t want to buy as many mobile minutes.

One of the things I really like about DirecTV aside from the hordes of HD channels I get is the sweet iPhone app that lets me set recordings when I am not home so I never miss a show. Dish Network users are able to get a similar app, assuming it is approved.

SlingPlayer Mobile 1.1 has been submitted for approval and adds native control over Dish Network receivers. The player also includes full 16:9 widescreen support. In the first edition of the SlingPlayer app users had to navigate the DVR from the streamed image.

The new version allows native control in the app and actually offers more features than you can access sitting in front of your receiver like search and filtering. Streaming with the app is still only supported on Wi-Fi connections, but a second version of the app was submitted that allows 3G streaming. We will have to wait and see if it is approved or not.
