Should the price drop to sub $200-$299 price range, users would switch service provider to AT&T in a heart beat. Didn’t the Motorazr hit the streets with a starting price of $500; and didn’t Motorola sell some 6 million handsets in the first year? And doesn’t the Motorola RAZR suck? Yes, yes and yes.

Apple iPhone at Macworld Expo 2007So how do the numbers break down? Of the 26 percent of respondents who said they’re likely to buy an iPhone, only 1 percent said they’d pay $500 for it. Note, $500 will get you the 4GB version while the 8GB will cost another $100.

Contrary to Verizon’s slogan “it’s the network,” 60 percent of the participants are willing to switch to AT&T just to get the iPhone. So it’s not always the network, but the handset itself.

I agree with the author’s view:

Without a shadow of a doubt, yesterday was owned by the emerging news of Apple’s iphone. I can’t say anything about the phone that hasn’t already been said but I can talk business for a moment. Most internet entrepreneurs make their money by being on the cutting edge, fate, luck, chance, hard work and sometime by timing. Most of the time it takes a combination of all of these to succeed. Imagine if 8 months ago you knew that yesterday would be the turning point of mobile phones as we know it….

The way I see it, there are three factors (no particular order of importance; all three must exist to be successful): luck, preparation, and timing. My entire business is built on these three little words. In the case of MYiPhone.com:

MYiPhone logoLuck: Apple decides to use the name iPhone even though the mark is owned by Cisco.

Preparation: MYiPhone.com (aka aMobileME) was created many months ago and is now a fully developed website with lots of content and a whole lot more link back from other websites in the blogosphere.

Timing: I knew beyond the shadow of a doubt Apple would someday unveil the iPhone. So when I saw MYiPhone.com come available, I immediately grabbed it.
