As Chase explains, “the best camera” refers to the fact that whatever image-capturing equipment you have on you is the best at the time; for many people, that means their iPhone, iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS.  With The Best Camera app, you can take photos, add effects (see below) and then share them on the social site, via your Facebook and Twitter page, via email, or simply save them into your camera roll, all from within the one application.

A thief in New York City made a major boo-boo when emailing a photo of himself through the iPhone he just stole. 18 year old Daquan Mathis and an accomplice grabbed 29 year old Sayaka Fukuda’s handbag and phone while she was waiting for a train.

Assuming she would never see her phone again, she went home via a call to police. Logging into the computer, she noticed that in the outbox was an email. The mugger (pictured) had emailed a picture of himself to his own email account using her iPhone. After passing the picture on to the police, Fukuda sent off an email to Mathis, telling him that she had sent it along and that he should expect to get arrested. His response was one on her life. The youngster was apparently already on file and was soon arrested. He also confessed to other robberies including the snatching of an Apple iPod. Lesson here – A) Don’t send emails via an iPhone you’ve just stolen B) Don’t steal (probably easier).

The Tiffen Company just announced a special version of its Tiffen Dfx Digital Filter Creative Effects software, allowing users to enhance images taken or stored on their iPhones, saves the new images without overwriting the original image.

Photo fx software is currently available on the iPhone App Store at an introductory price of $2.99. According to the company’s announcement, the software is already ranked in the top 10 on the iTunes photo app site.

You can choose from 26 filters organized into 5 different filter groups. Dfx is comprised of the following filters: Black and White, Black Pro-Mist, Center Spot, Color-Grad , Color Spot, Day for Night, Enhancer, Fog, Glow, Halo, High Contrast, Infrared, Looks, Night Vision, Old Photo, Polarizer, Pro-Mist, Reflector, Star, Soft/FX, Tint, Two Strip, Three Strip, Ultra Contrast and Vignette.
