If you are thinking about getting a new iPhone 4S on AT&T, you will be paying more for data, but getting a bit more data too. AT&T has a three-tier system that ups the price on each tier by $5 monthly compared to old rates. The plans still don’t offer much data with a $20 plan giving 300MB, a 3GB plan for $30, and a 5GB plan for $50 monthly.

That $50 monthly plan also includes tethering for the cost. Thankfully, if you don’t want more data and need the $5 monthly savings you can stay on your existing plan. Those not asking to stay will be rolled to the new plan. If you have an iPhone 4S and an iPod touch you can get Siri on your touch.

In fact, getting Siri on the touch is very simple to do according to a geek going by AppleGordon. All you have to do is run a restore of the 4S backup to your touch and Siri comes along for the ride. We are talking the claim with some sodium though. If you try it out and your device survives, let us know.

The App Store reviewer, finding that The Kama Sutra was accessible, then rejected the software under Apple’s “inappropriate sexual content” clause of the iPhone SDK agreement. However the same text is viewable online, through the iPhone’s Safari browser, as a downloadable ebook through Amazon’s Kindle app for iPhone, and bought as an audio book through iTunes.

“Thank you for submitting Eucalyptus — classic books, to go. to the App Store. We’ve reviewed Eucalyptus — classic books, to go. and determined that we cannot post this version of your iPhone application to the App Store because it contains inappropriate sexual content and is in violation of Section 3.3.12 from the iPhone SDK Agreement which states:

“Applications must not contain any obscene, pornographic, offensive or defamatory content or materials of any kind (text, graphics, images, photographs, etc.), or other content or materials that in Apple’s reasonable judgement may be found objectionable by iPhone or iPod touch users.”" Apple rejection letter

Eucalyptus’ author has now resubmitted the app, with a block on viewing The Kama Sutra. Apple’s parental controls make make the app submission and approval process more straightforward, but the seemingly mixed messages their software reviewers are delivering will be harder to navigate.

The report notes that the iPod and applications developed for the iPhone perform many functions in this time of “networked warfare.” The devices helping as intelligence resources, such as aerial images from drones and translation software. Included is a program called Vcommunicator translates spoken and written Arabic, Kurdish, as well as two Afghan languages.

One application developed for the iPhone allows soldiers to take a photo of a street sign, upload it and immediately receive intelligence on the local area, such as water and sympathizers. The report from Newsweek detailed that as new recruits were already familiar with how the iPod and iPhone work, it has been easier to train soldiers on loading content. Not to mention, the cost is significantly better than other military purchases.

A unit from Quick Bridge Solutions, fixes this issue. Quick Bridge Solutions features custom iPhone applications for Radio stations and online radio stations. And now, the QB-EM. The QB-EM Shield is a patent pending shield for your iPhone that makes streaming radio on your iphone more listen able.

The unit, is a simple business card shape makes it fit easily into most iPhone cases or docking stations. To use, just place the shield at the back of the case so that the shield will cover the black stripe at the lower section at the back of the iPhone. This reducing the EMI/RFI that can effect speakers, radios, telephones, etc. Although unproven, the website for the unit suggests that it can reduce the amount of EMF exposure to your body, providing a health benefit for individuals with pacemakers.

What won’t be possible is VoIP over 3G. According to Skype’s chief operating officer, Scott Durchslag, this is a limitation of Apple’s App Store terms of service. Neither AT&T nor Apple answered a request for a comment on the Skype app.

iPod touch owners will also be able to download and use the software, though they’ll need to buy a microphone accessory since the PMP doesn’t have one integrated. After iPhone OS 3.0 is released, however, 2nd-gen iPod touch users should be able to use the PMP’s newly-unlocked Bluetooth with hands-free headsets.

Of all the upcoming iPhone and iPod touch games, one of the most eagerly anticipated has been Metal Gear Solid Touch. Now video of the actual gameplay has prompted some to wonder whether the UI is entirely satisfactory, given that much of the time the player’s thumbs are covering up the action.

Announced last December, even the news that it was a simple shooter rather than the stealth title many were hoping for didn’t dissuade too many from MGS:Touch. However earlier pre-release footage neglected to show the gamer’s actual thumb movements in controlling the movement and sniper action, movements which we can now see are pretty intrusive into the gameplay.

Perhaps this is the stealth tactics part that some gamers wanted: predicting when an opponent will leap up behind your right thumb and shoot you before you’ve even realized he’s there. MGS:Touch is available now, priced at $10 from the App Store.

It has been noted that the iPod was in the ‘off’ position while sitting happily in the youngsters pants-pocket. After he heard it explode, the device managed to burn through his underwear to give him second-degree burns on his leg. According to the case, filed in Ohio district court, the minor “continues to suffer from both physical and mental conditions which will cause him to suffer pain, mental distress, emotional distress, and otherwise for the rest of his life.” All this looking to cost Apple $75,000.

Recorded costs from the little man’s mother Lynette Antrobus were $15 for hospital co-pay and $400 for clothing and the damaged iPod touch. Antrobus argues that Apple and its employees are guilty of wrongful acts or omissions, negligence, gross negligence, recklessness, and wanton and willful disregard for safety. All this because Apple never warned her that one of the units “features was spontaneous combustion”. Whats more, although not specifically listing why, the mother is also claiming damages that the 14 year olds injuries will leave him unable able to work. Ever.

My questions for the case:

What songs did the child have on the iPod, was this in part the reason it to exploded?

The cost of an iPod around $200, meaning $200 was spent on clothing: Who spends that much on a child’s pants and / or undies?

Was the iPod tampered with?

Will this mean instruction manuals of iPods / iPhones will include the words “This device will spontaneously combust if…”

Has this happened to anyone else?

I was never allowed a tape-based Walkman at School, when were iPods allowed?

What was the child doing at the time of the incident? Did that include fire, a brown paper bag, a strangers front door and a dog’s business? (I knew what boys at school were doing at 14…)

Why can’t my heath insurance be that good to only cost me $15 for a hospital visit?

Please note and personal comment: I seriously do hope that the child is ok as much as I am poking a bit of fun here. Being in any form of accident is never pleasant. If there are issues with the devices, batteries and the like then action is required. Although, I was brought up on a theory that there are people worse off than me, so harden up and go to work. This has included incidents of broken bones, burns and even a pair of scissors (and no – I wasn’t running with them). Fault has been mine and on occasion, the device tool or playground equipment in question. I agree with replacement costs for the iPod, pants and bills if the fault is Apple’s; although the damages – sorry. I personally worked with a genius developer (Adam) who lost 4 fingers, his whole face, voice box and ears after burns took 72% of his body. He works harder than any man I’ve known. So I am sceptical about how a burnt leg can render the boy unable to ever work.

I do have huge sympathy for the child that he’s in a bad way now, although learn, live and move on little man. The accident (I hope) was a freak incident that will never be heard of again. Remember mate: chicks dig scars.

Users can see IM status in their contacts and elect to call, text, instant message, email or even send a Facebook, MySpace or Twitter message, all from one simple menu. The application is not available not only for the iPhone but also the iPod Touch. Eventually Pinger plans to add support for BlackBerry, Microsoft Windows Mobile, Palm and Symbian.

“If people under 25 designed mobile phones, they’d put IM and social network messaging alongside dialing, texting and e-mail,” said Greg Woock, Pinger CEO. “With more than 30 billion messages sent on IM and social networks every day, it’s probably about time someone deeply integrated them into the basic mobile phone experience.”

Pinger Phone includes a single menu that allows users to call, text, IM, e-mail, or even send a Facebook, MySpace or Twitter message to contacts. Users now can communicate with friends without moving back and fourth between applications. Pinger Phone also logs all of your communication history so you can review was said to a specific person. Many users will be happy to know that there is a horizontal keyboard to for those who find it easier on your fingers.

They have just announced that they have decided to bring it to the next level and offer video among other things on their m.flickr.com mobile site for iPhone and iPod Touch users.

With the iPhone and iPod Touch being the only who devices that are able to play videos, Flickr plans on implementing this feature into other mobile devices in the future. It works by plying videos with Quicktime, avoiding the need for Flash support entirely.

You can also comment on photos or even save the to you’re your favorites list if you wish. This site still works at a very fast pace, as you would normally expect it to work. It appears that iPhone users are not the only ones who are very impatiently waiting for the Flash. Lets just hope that many other companies decide to work around the problem.

As always the iPhone Dev Team is warning about blindly installing the new firmware without instruction from them first. They have gone out explaining the pros and cons of immediately installing one of these updates without knowing all that it is doing to your phone.

With all the security measures that Apple are taking to prevent the jailbreaking of iPhones we would not be surprised to see a hidden feature in the 2.2 firmware. It is true that the iPhone Dev Team has come up with a jailbreak for the new firmware but installing it may reduce if not kill your chances of unlocking the device.

They are now stating that installing 2.2 straight from the iTunes auto-updater can really hurt any chances of getting an unlock if they ever find one. The iPhone Dev Team also states that they are not currently working on the iPod Touch 2G right now. They are very interested in the platform but as you can tell they have their plate full for right now. We suspect they will get to it eventually when they have more time.

Warren Stringer has created a new multiplayer horse racing game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. If you just cant seem to get away from the racetracks this application will hold you over till your next visit.

Shake your iPhone to make the horse run faster. By the end of a few races you will have a pretty decent workout. You can race against other players as long as they are connected to the same Wi-Fi hotspot. There is no word as to whether or not there is a way to throw your opponent off in any way. It appears to just be straight forward clean racing fun.

Jump up and down while holding the iPhone in front of your face, then “whip” your horse by flicking the screen.

Bouncing your legs like you’re on the back of a horse after putting the iPhone in your back pocket. You can, ahem, whip the horse by spanking yourself.

Tap the screen, and whip the horse by flicking the screen.

As much as we love to play solo, we don’t see this game being a lot of fun without a second player. This game seems worth the $.99 that you will spend on it in the App Store. We would love to know what you think!

The LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker application for iPhone and iPod Touch is now available for free in the App Store. This application helps people easily monitor their nutrition, weight and exercise every day. LIVESTRONG.COM’s database consists of over 450,000 foods and 2,000 different activities.

These days it isn’t always easy for people to eat right and exercise. LIVESTRONG.COM had that in mind when they created an application that helps people monitor their diet wherever they are. It doesn’t matter who you are or what your goals are, LIVESTRONG.COM Calorie Tracker is a great solution for any situation.

Lance Armstrong, founder and chairman of the Lance Armstrong Foundation and LIVESTRONG.COM advisory board chairman said, “It’s all about consistency. We all know that thinking about making a change is different from actually going out and doing something about it. Whether someone is thinking about losing weight, eating healthy, running a marathon or just incorporating regular exercise in their day-to-day life, it takes commitment and daily determination to successfully effect positive change.”

Using the tracker is easy, simply search for the foods that you consume during the day, the application then tallies the calories and shows fat, carbohydrate and protein intake with the touch of a button. Using your phone you can search through over 2,000 fitness activities that helps show you how many calories you burn each day. Seeing your calorie intake, and how much you are burning off daily helps put fitness more in perspective for users who would like to be healthier.

Piergiorgio Zambrini, who many of you may know him as the creator of the Ziphone application, claims to have found what he believes to be one of the most wide-spread security holes in Apple’s product line. Zambrini has recently applied for a job as an iPhone security engineer at Apple.

We would say he has better qualifications than the lineup Apple currently has. While he is not going to put Apple in danger by releasing any of this information, he says the security flaw is not only found in the iPhone, but in other Apple devices such as iPods and even computers. The security flaw is claimed to be in the most unexpected of all places.

Zambrini claims that he bug involves the audio portion of Apple’s video format, this portion potentially can crash an Apple device whenever the file is played. While he has not stated that it can be used maliciously, but the flaw could “immediately send the device into a panic that leads to a lengthy reboot.” The last thing Apple needs is more crashing on their iPhones. Zambrini has brought this to Apple’s attention back in July, but has yet to hear back about the issue or his application.

Lucasfilm Ltd. has released their official Lightsaber Unleashed application in the App Store. We quickly downloaded it and dove in to what has become a very fun and interesting application. When you open the application you are taken to what looks like an ad for another StarWars game.

After selecting Lightsaber you are taken to a screen that allows you to either select one of 5 characters or create your own. The selectable characters include Darth Vader, Rahm Kota, Maris Brood, The Apprentice and Shaak Ti. You can view a full screen picture of there character as well as read a bio about them. The color of their Lightsaber is displayed as a shadow to their picture.

Creating a custom character is more detailed than we had imagined. You select their Name, Character Picture, Custom Lightsaber and Even write a Bio for them. Lightsaber customization is very easy, just choose one of 5 handles and then scroll the colors until you have get the desired shade.

Now its time for the fun part, the actual use of the Lightsaber. After selecting you character you come to a screen than allows you to swing the Lightsaber and hear authentic sounds. As if that was not enough you can set StarWars music to play in the background as you wield your Lightsaber. When you eventually get bored of this mode you can tap the Lightsaber icon to get a full screen light saber that even flashes upon impact.

This application really has it all, it is entertaining and very customizable. Its clear that developers did not just throw this together one night. They invested time into this application to make it the best Lightsaber application there is for the iPhone. You can download Lightsaber Unleashed for free right now in the App Store for iPhone and iPod Touch.
