The design involves a very sophisticated yet complicated dual-surface user interface. The full face-side of this device will be nothing more than a display, much like the iPhone is today, while the back-side will be primarily dominated by a force-sensitive touch based surface.

Keep in mind that these are mere rendering of what may or may not be the real products if anything at all – so take it with a grain of salt. It’s likely however that Apple may end up offering the iPhone in a wide variety of colors similar to the iPod nano called iPhone-chromatic.

The new supposed iPhone unibody and iPhone nano design does look like something we can expect from Apple, offering a thinner and sleeker look. I personally tjink these renderings look good and of course keeping my fingers crossed that the third version of the iPhone will look this good.

According to a Chinese version o the Economic Daily News a chip manufacturing company is about to receive microchip orders from Apple in March slotting the release soon after. If Apple were to release a lower cost iPhone Nano wouldn’t that take the integrity of the iPhone line down a notch? After all Apple does not release a product that has taken a step backwards. Every release is a step in a forward direction with better, more powerful products.

Coming from a Chinese source we all know that chances are this is a bunch of hogwash. The Chinese punch out cheap iPhone rip offs like there is no tomorrow and we suspect that many of them will cash in on this idea fairly quickly. Maybe the source mistook Apple for some other company.

Mat Brady has come up with an iPhone idea that has 60GB of internal memory, slide-out keyboard, true 16:9 screen ratio with 640x 360 resolution.  This concept design is being called the “iPhone ELITE.” We have seen a few iPhone camera lenses out there, but they all require bulky cases and never seem to work very well. USB Fever has come up with a magnetic set of lenses that can be attached without the air of a case.

Kraft Foods has released the iFood Assistant iPhone application. This app provides users with 7,000 recipes, each with its own video demonstration. iFood Assistant also gives users an editable shopping list for gathering ingredients from the grocery store. Spatial View has finally released their Wazabee 3DeeShell for the iPhone 3G. This “shell” has a lens that claims to allow users to see the screen in a unique 3D view. Man there has been more than enough third party keyboards out there for the iPhone. This latest one we have stumbled upon folds in half and is packed with features.

The 2008 Best App Ever Awards have come around and we urge you to take the time to go over and vote for your favorite application. There are 34 categories that the applications are voted on ranging from the eponymous “Best App Ever” all the way down to “Best Free or Ad Supported Game.” The PSP-like iControlPad for gaming on the iPhone has finally made its way to production. Now we will soon be able to play games with physical buttons.

As promised the iPhone Dev Team has released their iPhone 3G unlocking tool entitled “Yellowsn0w.” This unlock ban be downloaded via Cydia on unlocked iPhones. A pink iPhone 3G hit Ebay this week sparking all sorts of rumors. It was not long after it popped up that we found out that this is only a pink case that looks surprisingly like the phone itself.

iPhone owners in colder climates have always wanted to be able to use the iPhone with gloves to avoid freezing their fingers off.  Apple has filed a patent on gloves that contain a special tip that can mimic the electrical conductivity of skin to trigger a response.

Is it a iPhone “Nano” that’s been discussed on various sites? “We believe this device is on its way,” said Friedman, Billings, Ramsey analyst Craig Berger.

Yeah, the iPhone Nano is still not exist yet (despite the fake versions already been spotted circulating in Thailand and Spain), but its case already unveiled.

MacRumors pointed out:

While it may be that Vaja is simply taking advantage of the hype surrounding the iPhone Nano, the rumors have been persistent over the past few weeks. While Apple does not give case manufacturers information about unreleased products, Apple must contract out to factories to manufacture their hardware. It is believed that it is through these contracts that case design specs are often leaked ahead of time. As we’ve said before, case manufacturers have a huge financial incentive to have cases ready in time for new product launches.

It’s still unclear whether the real iPhone Nano will be revealed at the the next month’s MacWorld, but one for sure:  the rumors won’t quit soon. Interesting :-)

Pinger is a new application that allows users to stay connected to friends in a number of ways using social networking services such as MySpace, Twitter and Facebook. Users can use Pinger to see the IM status of their friends and elect to call, text, instant message, email or even send a Facebook, MySpace or Twitter message, all from one simple menu.

Among all the rumors of the new iPhone Nano a photo that claimed to be the actual device surfaced. Later some photos that looked remarkably like the iPhone Nano surfaced of a knockoff device being currently sold in Thailand. The boxing of this knockoff device is identical to that of the original iPhone 3G. Snapture has managed to bring Xenon Flash to the iPhone 3G for the first time ever. The concept device gives of an instantaneous flash more than 100 times brighter than any conventional LED flash accessory.

Smudge has finally introduced their Remind Me application for the iPhone that we have been hearing about. For only $.99 you can get a really useful note application with plenty of different looks and interfaces. Mint.com has also released their financial management application into the App Store at no cost to users. Another patent that Apple has filed has surfaced and as usual this one is very exciting. The patent outlines gestures used when composing a text message. A downward gesture would then enter a return in the message. A swipe to the left would then delete one character.

Just when you thought the iPhone 3G could not get any cheaper AT&T goes and offers it for $99. Of course this price is for a refurbished version of the 8GB model and is only available with the signing of a new two-year agreement. Now the iPhone 3G is available to virtually anybody who would like one. Thanks to Citrix Receiver, Windows users can use Windows apps in their iPhone 3G. Citrix allows users to access their PCs Microsoft Windows operating systems from a remote location.

Fans of Japanese sushi will be happy to know the Sushi encyclopedia has been released for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The Sushi Encyclopedia will provide 82 pictures and descriptions of 82 different kinds of sushi as your culinary refference. Initially the Sushi encyclopedia will available in Japanese with an english version to soon follow. Now for only $2.99 iPhone owners can watch TV on their iPhone with the new TV application, called Television, for Apple iPhone and iPod Touch. This application is still not without flaws, videos are not live and a Wi-Fi connection is needed. All of the channels offered are already available for free on the Internet.

Those eagerly anticipating next month’s Macworld and the prospects of a smaller iPhone should beware, as a slew of tiny clones are introducing confusion as they reach store shelves.

While silicone case molds have surfaced that allegedly hint at a smaller iPhone in the works, a rash of similarly-sized dupes made by anonymous southeast Asian firms have added to the confusion.

The devices, spotted here by an AppleInsider reader in Thailand, are almost always designed to mimic Apple’s products as closely as possible and share not only the basic design but the branding as well, in some cases directly copying the logo and the “iPhone” labeling on the back.

So, let’s wait until the next month’s MacWorld to see the real iPhone Nano – if any.

This tiny iPhone would have the distinctive candy bar shape and would be targeted to the pay-as-you-go market, to which the iPhone and iPhone 3G were a bit too pricey. This is all fine and well, but one thing makes my suspicions rise and makes me want to call this rumor bogus: 

One expert suggested the nano phone would have a touch wheel on the back and display on the front so that numbers would be dialled from behind.

Um, I just don’t see that happening, do you? Oh, and that photo is from when we all thought an iPhone Nano was coming last year. It’s fake, fake, fake.

“The iPhone is the driver with the greatest potential.  We believe the iPhone will replace the iPod as a driver of significant growth for the company” Gene Munster, analyst, PiperJaffray

As for the 3G iPhone itself, Munster anticipates that hitting stores at some point between June and September “with new features”; it’s possible that this is the version the analyst suggests will launch, at some point in 2008, in Canada, Mexico, Australia, Italy and Japan.  He hedges his bets regarding a Chinese launch, citing the stumbling negotiations as key problem.

Gene predicts that these new markets could “effectively double” the iPhone’s potential market each year, pegging total sales during 2009 at 45 million.

However, it does look very much like the iPhone, save for the giant “MP4 Player” sticker across the top and some retarded looking joystick type of thing at the bottom. So yes, the product is real, no its not an iPhone Nano, although that could be one of the announcements on Wednesday, I doubt it, but at an Apple event, it’s like McDonalds’ “Hey, it could happen” slogan.

[Chris Davies]  While I’ve no doubt Chang is feeling pretty sheepish right now, this whole affair goes some way to show the massive impact a company like Apple can have on the analyst and investment community. Remember, people like Kevin Chang are paid to predict the future; okay, they have patents, inside sources and other information to go on, but at the end of the day their profit comes from capturing the zeitgeist of public and producer and theorising a few steps down the line.

[Chris Davies]  What these retracted ideas do indicate is the potential consumer demand for iPhone-related hardware. Hits to our original analyst story about Chang’s report were massive, and rumours and conjecture have occupied many bloggers across the internet community today. Right now, the focus seems to come back to 3G before anything else (and there’s no doubting that Apple has creases and omissions to sort out in its first-gen device), but few would argue against Jobs & co. likely making the most of their already-iconic handset. A mid-range, perhaps nano-based cellphone from the company is pretty much inevitable; we just have a whole lot more rumour and speculation to go until we know anything solid.

Now that they can’t drop cryptic hints about the iPhone’s existence, analysts are moving on to the next predicted phase in Apple’s master plan: a nano-based cellphone. Kevin Chang, an analyst with JP Morgan, has quoted anonymous sources in the Apple hardware supply chain as well as pointing to recently-revealed patents for iPod-like devices with multiple functions and a touch-sensitive scrollwheel.

He’s not the only one expecting big things; rival firm Piper Jaffray pushed analyst Gene Munster blinking into the light to clue us in on their expectation of a touchscreen-based iPod, media-dedicated unlike the iPhone, which would go some way to prevent the cellphone eating into PMP sales.

While Apple so far has refused to comment on either suggestion, opinion seems to be growing that an iPhone nano – priced at $300 or lower and with “rather limited functionality” – would allow the company to hit sales of 30 to 40 million units in 2008. Chang also fingered Taiwan’s Catcher Technology as “major source of metal casing” for the new handset, although he refused to reveal his sources.
