The old Apple Newton has been given a new life by an enterprising geek as a case for the iPhone. The hack seems to have gutted the Newton and the iPhone slips inside making the Newton much more than it ever was before.

You get three in a box set in various pastel, dessert-looking colors such as white, strawberry and lime green. And while you could pick up a pack of three of similar cases at your local electronics store for about $10, this designer set goes for $55. 

That’s asking a little too much, if you ask me. Especially since the only thing that sets these cases apart from the rest is the “iChoose Juicy” logo on the back. I hate to be such a downer but I like to call a rip off when I see one, and this definitely qualifies.

MagicPad came to the App Store as well, giving us a look at what copy and paste could be like if it were native to the iPhone. And if you’re an app developer, you got some seriously good news this week when it was revealed just how profitable app sales can be. 

The iPhone 2.0.1 Firmware update hit iPhones this week as well, and as shown in our side-by-side comparison, gave the phone a considerable speed boost. During the week, Installer 4 was leaked in beta form, but it got an official beta release alongside PwnageTool 2.0.2. 

More countries are getting the iPhone 3G on August 22, plus, we learned that it may be possible to stream your iTunes library over Wi-Fi onto your iPhone in the future, due to a new patent Apple has filed. We also took a look at several apps in the App Store to give you an idea of what’s available, including Dice Bag, Frogger, Cubes Lite, Sudoku Unlimited and Dizzy Bee. 

Finally, you can’t have an iPhone without something stylish to keep it in. The Dapper iPhone Pouch is a unisex slip case that gives off a masculine vibe. Here is yet another case, actually three, to help you in your search for the perfect iPhone case for you.  All three of these are definitely girly cases, featuring stars, butterflies and even flowers.  Not really anything to appeal to the guys in there.

From the looks of the site, I am guessing this is just for the 1st Gen phones, although I could be wrong on that.  I have to say, all three of these cute little cases have texture, like the butterflies bubble up from the case.  Which I know ended up bothering me when it came to my iPod Touch case.

That’s purely a preference thing though, you just have to know what you like.  The case is currently being sold for $19.95 and comes in the three different styles shown here.

The pouch itself is definitely for either sex, although this one looks a bit more masculine than feminine. The Dapper iPhone pouch will fit both the 1st Gen iPhone and the 3G iPhone.

It is made from 100% top-grade 3mm wool felt and for the front pocket premium buttery soft cow leather. They are handcrafted in Europe and will cost you $70 a piece.

If you’re on the lookout for an iPhone case that does something besides keep your iPhone well protected, then you might check one of these out. It doesn’t have quite the chic look of a Mophie Juice Pack, but it is a nice alternative.

It does have that nice leather look going for it too. Unfortunately, these won’t help anyone with a 3G iPhone. It is purely for 1st Gen iPhones and the iPod Touch.

Thankfully it is a great deal cheaper than a Juice Pack, a Juice Pack goes for just under $100. This one is retailing for $25.19. Granted I’m sure that the Juice Pack is going to be a safer bet and better quality all around, but if you’re just looking for something cheap this would be great.

One thing that is going to bother some is this is a sleeve to store your iPhone in. Which means anytime you’d like to use it you’re going to end up having to slip it out.

Being a Louis Vuitton product, I’m afraid this is a bit pricey too, even if it is just two pieces of leather slapped together. It is currently being sold for $280.

The two new cases are the Landau and Plus. The Landau is your basic case which provides all-around protection (including a screen protector) without limiting access to any of your ports or buttons. The Plus is a more rugged case which covers the entire non-screen surface of the phone. ezButtons are built into the case, which are essentially areas which have extra silicon padding. This allows you to press on specific areas of the case and have the desired button be activated. Your iPhone’s screen will be protected by a standard static screen protector.

Both cases will be available in Frost White, Onyx Black and Cool Blue. The Landau will also be available in Princess Pink. The ezSkin Plus is expected to run $19.99, while the Landau will be $5 less. Both are set to ship on July 8, 2008.

As you can see, the case clearly fits the rumored specifications.  The design of the case fits the curved back rumor, it also fits the description of the bottom of the device. The device in the case is very clearly a stock photo of the current iPhone. That would be expected considering the device is not even out to the public yet.

It is not clear when the case will be made available. Logic would suggest as soon as the 3G iPhone comes out, but you never know. Since the device in the photo is the original iPhone, we do not get to know anything new about the 3G iPhone.
