American Airlines has announced that it is planning to launch in-flight streaming of PPV movies to iPhone, iPad, and other devices. The movies will be streamed via Aircell in-flight broadband service.

A rumor has surfaced that Intel may be the company fabbing chips for future iPhone models. Apple currently uses Samsung fabbed chips and the legal battle between the two could be the reason for the change.

Last month a SIM card tray turned up claiming to be for the next version of the iPhone. Today a midboard for the fourth gen iPhone has tipped up. It’s hard to say if these are legit products or nothing more than a way to get attention. The company promises pics of the back cover for the fourth gen iPhone soon.

China Unicom has reported that a paltry 5,000 new subscribers is all that has purchased the iPhone in China since it launched last week. That is really no surprise considering that the official iPhone costs more than grey market devices available in the country with more features.

Intel has released an official comment on the issue that some users are reporting with certain Intel-based systems not synchronizing the iPhone with the latest iTunes version. Intel says that it believes the problem to be with BIOS or system configuration, but it is still investigating.

If you’ve got Olympic fever and can’t get enough of the athletes, medals and Beijing news, you should consider downloading the Zumobi Olympics widget. It’s backed by Lenovo and Intel and makes checking up on all of the events and making sure you have your DVR scheduled for the right times super easy and convenient.

The widget uses content from both Lenovo’s “Voices” and “Olympic Podium” websites. Plus, if you already use Zumobi, the interface will look familiar.

All you have to do is go to the App Store and download the free app. If anything, it should help you save time as you’re trying to hunt down all of the latest Olympics info. I like a good time saver and this app qualifies as just that.

Well another week of iPhone news has gone by. This week has been somewhat slow compared to what we usually see. Quit possibly because everyone is counting down the days to WWDC. That’s because we are hearing rumors that the 3G iPhone will not be the only thing Apple is going to awe us with at the event.

Of course, this is referring to the mystery device that is rumored to drop at WWDC. We heard rumors about the device, and then even a confirmation by Intel’s German unit, saying that the device will be powered by their new Atom processor. These comments were of course retracted, and dismissed by Intel as a example of a device that could be powered by Atom.

The iPhone will see some new distribution in a few more countries according to Orange. The new countries include Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and Orange’s African markets. It is expected that the new markets will get the device by years’ end.

WWDC is going to be the place to be this year. Unfortunately though, unless you have already been accepted, you are not going to get in. The event is now fully booked. Those wanting to see the action can log in to their Apple developer accounts to check out video clips from the event. Do not forget to follow our live coverage of the event at live.iphonebuzz.com.

3G iPhone rumors are slowly pouring in still. We have heard rumors that the 3G iPhone may come in up to three different color choices. This is not all, as we are also hearing rumors that the device will come with GPS, Mobile TV, and even video conferencing. This would be an amazing addition to the 3G iPhone, and with all that 3G action, will be welcomed with open arms.

An option for ‘iPhone Black’ showed up on AT&T’s website as an option for choosing your device. The option was found next to the normal iPhone option, which sparked a wave of rumors about the 3G iPhone launching soon. AT&T of course denied the rumors almost immediately, giving this response.

“The reference to “iPhone Black” was simply a temporary placeholder used over the weekend for a scheduled catalog update. It was meant to temporarily distinguish the various iPhone models-4GB, 8GB and 16GB-but was never reassigned. It should be corrected on the site by now.” Brad Mays, PR for AT&T.

It seems Intel would like to shy away from comments made by their German manager yesterday. We saw yesterday a rumor originating from a German language source, that said that Intel had confirmed that a higher resolution iPhone like device would be powered by their new Atom processor. According to Intel however, these were general remarks, about what their new processor “might” power.

Intel says that the whole mess stemmed from a poor German to English translation of the article, posted in a German language version of ZDNet. It is interesting though, that the original article we saw posted yesterday from the source, is different than the one that has been posted now.

“Intel knows nothing over future products of other manufacturers and can therefore over it also nothing say,” -Mike Cato, Intel Spokesman

Hopefully the quote sounded a lot better in German than the translated version shown here. It is an interesting story, as other sources attending the same event, that heard the German Intel manager speak, did not say he said anything about the iPhone. Others, say they did though. It is a messy rumor, and the only way we are going to know for sure is when WWDC rolls around.

According to an article published on a German website, the manager of Intel in Germany has confirmed that Apple will be shipping a device that will sport their new Atom processor. We had seen the rumor for a tablet like device, that could supposedly be launched at WWDC. If this leak does turn out to be true, it definitely adds some credibility to the rumor.

As part of an Intel event for the 40th birthday of the semiconductor company at Munich’s BMW World, Germany managing director Hannes Schwaderer confirmed today what has long been a rumor on the Internet: namely, that there is an iPhone with Intel’s new Atom chip. The device is slightly larger than the current version, Schwaderer said. That is not, however, because of the Intel chip, but because of the larger display used in the new iPhone. – Hannes Schwaderer, Germany Manager, Intel

There you have it, a slightly larger device that will accommodate a larger screen. It is rumored that the device will have a 720×480 multi touch display. This matches the description in the rumor about Steve Jobs announcing such a device at WWDC this year, which kicks off on June 9th. We also expect to see the 3G iPhone during the conference as well.

Apple also went more environmentally friendly by cutting packaging size down 56%, making circuit boards Bromide and PVC free, and taking mercury out of the displays.

The Macbook air can be pre-ordered now in Black or White, and can be seen in stores in 2 weeks at a respectable $1799. Hit the cut for more images of the MacBook air.

HTC has finally released its upcoming PDA/UMPC entitled the shift. Well, they have at least released it in Korea.

The HTC shift is quite revolutionary, whereas up until now, if you wanted to do even the most basic of functions on your UMPC you had to fully power it on and begin sucking away at that battery, with the Shift, this is not the case. There are separate OS and processors for use at your disposal.

There is the 400MHz Qualcomm processor and Windows Mobile 6.0 for PDA types of use, and you can use it without recharging running solely on this set of hardware/software. Then you simply push a button and you are using the Intel A110 800MHz processor and Windows Vista Business which only lasts about 3 hours.

Other specs include a 1.3MP webcam, fingerprint scanner, 1GB DDR2, 40GB HDD, WLAN, HSDPA, and the latest revision of Bluetooth. There isn’t a price listed, but it should be available now (once again, at least in Korea). One note of caution, HTC’s latest press release containing info on the Shift says it should be released in US and European markets by Q3 of this year, so, it may be available in Korea, but probably won’t be available here for at least another month.

This little guy packs a 5-inch screen that as we know swivels and rotates so you can view in portrait and landscape modes. You’ll also get Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and WWAN. Other than that, not much is known about this little guy. It does appear to be running Vista from the pictures.

The keyboard looks like it might be a concern. Though when looking close, it reminds me a lot of the keyboard that was on my Cingular 8125, and it was pretty easy to use.

Apple and Intel are buds for everything but chipsets for cell phone. So don’t think for a second that Intel won’t take this opportunity to create a more powerful yet still maintain a low power output for the iPhone’s competitors.

It’s still too early to pass judgement on the chip sporting the iPhone because Apple has not announced the maker. As I mentioned above, the first objective for the iPhone chip-killer must be low power in order to help increase battery life. The second objective is to bring down cost per unit; that way more iPhone rivals will have Intel inside.

“Virtually every computer and handset manufacturer is struggling to figure out how they’re going to compete with Apple’s iPhone,” Otellini said. “If we get the power and performance [of the Intel chip] right, it’s going to be a killer combination.”

“If we get power and price down to the right point, I think it is a killer silicon compilation to these kinds of devices,” said Otellini.

[Vincent’s take] If this Intel chip is so great and cost less than what they’re using now, I don’t see why Apple just wouldn’t switch to it for the iPhone 2.0.
