If you have the GTA III game on your iPhone and are jailbroken you might like this. It has been found that the mods used on the PC version of the GTA III game will work on the iOS and Android versions.

Apple design chief Jonathan Ive has been knighted. As a British citizen he can now go by Sir Jonathan.

We have all seen Apple approve some very strange apps, then turn around, and remove them from the app store citing violations of one form or another. Things like that shake the baby app for instance. Apple has a history of not allowing unofficial arcade game emulators on the App Store.

One such unofficial emulator is on the App Store right now. It is called iMAME and it has a virtual arcade cabinet with controls surrounding the game on your screen. We suspect the app might not stay on the App Store very long.

The app has games called Circus, Side Track, and Hard Hat by default. The thing that is likely to get the app pulled is that you can add your own ROMs, thus allowing you to toss other games on and those games could be Atari classics for instance. Grab the app while you can if you are a fan. The app is compatible with the iCade as well.

If you are developing new iPhone games now, please consider the price wisely. The cheaper is better, according to a recent study about top selling App Store games. At least, if you had plan to increase the game’s sales volume.

In a study of the top 100 iPhone games, PocketGamer.biz has discovered something that really isn’t that surprising. The cheaper the game, the more likely it is to sell. Of the top 20 best selling titles, a full 15 cost only $0.99. In fact, 36 of the top 100 cost $0.99. Surprisingly, the next most popular price is $4.99, accounting for 20 of the top 100 titles. Still, the site notes that the top 10 games have an average price of $1.89, so it would seem that cheaper is better, at least in terms of sales volume.

You can download Sonic for iPhone for $5.99 and start racing through various levels to free captured animals from the insidious Dr. Robotnik (more commonly known as Dr. Eggman).

Sonic for iPhone was announced by Sega’s Director of Production, Paxton Lazar, during the “Mobile Gaming Experience” panel at the Consumer Electronics Show, on January 7, 2009.

According to Sega, Sonic has been faithfully recreated to take advantage of the iPhone’s powerful capabilities, enabling users to enjoy the classic style and breakneck speed of the game with responsive touchpad controls.

PocketGamers wrote:

It’s very much classic Sonic – we’re talking Mega Drive era – with seven zones to run, jump and roll your way through. They include Green Hill Zone and Labyrinth Zone, as well as special stages.

You can play in full-screen or ‘Arcade’ view, with on-screen virtual controls handling the action. The key thing will be the speed and smoothness, of course – fans will howl if it’s not up to the job.

id Software programmer and co-founder John Carmack, quoted by USA Today, says:

that “not very long ago, it was an open question if classic first-person shooter-play styles could be adapted to the touch and tilt controls of the iPhone and still remain fun, so I set out to find the answer. … it was a lot of fun to grow the project from a little experiment into a full-fledged product. To me, the iPhone is the most exciting new platform in ages, and I am very much looking forward to bringing our entire historic series of titles over, as well as brand-new work.”

Other iPhone version of popular id games like Doom and Quake are also reportedly on the way. Yay!

Nine months old company Ngmoco has raised $10 million in a second round of funding, according to Venture Beat. Last July, the San Francisco-based iPhone game publisher raised a $5 million from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Maples Investments.

Led by Norwest Venture Partners, the successful second funding shows how cool the iPhone game landscape is. Ngmoco was founded by ex Electronics Arts executive Neil Young last July and launched its first iPhone game in October. So far, they have seven games on the market.

“Everything in this market happens so quickly,” said Young in an interview. “The iPhone is really the first wave of new phones that have the same capability to play games as the handheld game systems have.”

According to Young, the company expects to release 12 to 15 premium games in 2009. Their upcoming games include Star Defense, a sci-fi game and Touch Pets, which is a virtual pets game.
