Ballistic HC case, iPhone 4 jailbreak hole patch, Fring 2-way video calls

With the front and back of the new iPhone 4 being glass, you had better believe most of us will need a good case. The Ballistic HC case has surfaced with four layers of protection to keep that glass unbroken.

Apple is rumored to be patching that Jailbreak hole in iOS4 on the iPhone 4 with an update. The new update will bring the OS to iOS 4.0.1 tipped to land in the next few weeks.

Fring has added 2-way 3G video calls to its bag of tricks for the iPhone 4. The latest Fring release supports Android, S60 devices, and iOS.

There are lots of industries where taking payments in the field are required. A new system for the iPhone that allows users to accept credit card payments on the device is now available from Square. The system has a card reader that plugs into the headphone socket.

The first Apple-approved app for live broadcasts is now available in the App Store. The App is called Knocking Live Video and it allows live broadcasts over a 3G network. The app can also connect to Facebook.

A new version of the Fring app is available that adds video calling. The catch is that the video calling is only one way thanks to the rear mounted camera. I guess you have to turn the phone around and talk into the camera for video calling to work.

New Fring on the App Store now

A new version of fring is now available on the App Store, adding some functionality for “fringsters” to use this service on the original iPhone, iPhone 3G or iPod Touch. Using fring, you can interact with friends on all your favorite social networks including Skype, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, SIP, Twitter, Yahoo! and AIM.

You can now choose whether to show or hide your Offline contacts and regular GSM buddies. And for convenience, we’ve moved fring settings to the general iPhone settings, so there’s no need to open fring each time you want to make a small change.

You’ll also notice a small flag symbol in the top left hand corner of the dialer screen, Tap this and you’ll get a list of countries. Select the one you’re calling and the International dial code will automatically be entered making overseas Skype Out and SIP calls even easier.
