iPhone 2.1 Beta 4 seeded; push notification removed

Apple sent out their Firmware 2.1 Beta 4 to developers, it seems. The focus of this update? Why, bug fixes, of course. What's interesting though is Apple removed the push notification service from this release. As you may remember, this service is intended to act as the basis for background process support. iPhone 2.1 Beta 3 Released to Developers

It looks like Apple is moving right along with updates, as the iPhone 2.1 beta 3 firmware has just been seeded to developers.  The beta is meant for developers to test, only. However, phones that have been updated to this new version cannot be used to develop apps for the App Store. iPhone 3G Firmware Hits Developers

There's a big difference between the first gen iPhone and the iPhone 3G. Apple is moving forward with firmware updates much quicker this time around. In fact, the 3G 2.1 firmware is already being offered to developers for beta testing. Initial talk is showing that the main focus of the updates will revolve around the GPS.
