A cool new app has surfaced called Scan It that is in use in Stop & Shop supermarkets in the eastern US. The cool app lets the user scan their groceries and then hand the iPhone to the clerk to pay at the register.

An interesting if a bit strange design concept surfaced that wraps the iPhone into a Leica camera design. The concept isn’t official from Apple or Leica, but it is cool nonetheless.

A prototype white iPhone 4 has landed on eBay. I can only imagine the auction will be short lived since Apple will surely end it once they see the thing. The iPhone is up to nearly $3,000 at this point.

At the same time, the talk has shares of AT&T falling. IPhone users are likely to migrate in droves away from AT&T once the iPhone is available elsewhere in the US.

eBay has launched a new seller app for the iPhone. The new app allows users to list items they want to sell in less than 60 seconds right from the smartphone.

eBay is the top auction website online and has tons of products for shoppers and lots of buyers for sellers. It’s a win-win situation often, though many of use loathe eBay policies. eBay has had an iPhone app available for a long time now and the app has been given an update.

The new release now sends users push notifications when they have been outbid on an item and when an auction is nearing completion. The user can press a button on these messages and open the item to up their bid or just let things end.

The app is also now integrated with PayPal to allow users to pay for items from within the mobile app. The app also now allows the searching of completed items and item descriptions. The company also says that another update will even allow users to add listings on eBay with the mobile app.

For a moment, two iPhone prototypes were for sale on eBay. There was also a supporting YouTube Video, although before you try to find them; they have both been pulled.

Both the auction and YouTube video of the working prototype have been pulled at Apple‘s request. For eBay, the seller told iLounge that “as many people predicted would happen, Apple has contacted eBay to close the listing.” YouTube states that “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Apple, Inc.” Neither of the iPhones had the word “iPhone” written on them. From what was available through photos, each unit was manufactured in China in late 2006. (The iPhone was not officially announced until January 2007.) The working unit runs iPhone OS 03.06.01_G while the launch version which ran version 03.11.02_G.

This seems all too similar to former Apple employee, Mike Evangelist for listing a pre-release first-generation iPod on eBay. This one pulled at the beginning of this year. The iPod was fully functional, the pre-production unit can be synced with the current version of iTunes, but required a special utility for restoring the software. The hardware changes made before the official release preclude this unit from being updated/restored using the standard mechanism. I thought these toys went into Museums? And thinking of eBay, I need a new coffee table, thanks for the reminder iLounge!

Whenever new technology comes out, it’s a given that it will hit eBay. But if supply can’t meet the demand for the product, some outrageous asking prices begin to show up on the popular bidding site. And outrageous is exactly what’s going on now that many cannot find the new iPhone 3G at their local Apple stores. In fact, prices for the new phone are upwards of $1000 on eBay right now.

But not all of the blame for the high price craziness can be placed on those putting up the auctions. Bidders are causing the prices to reach sky-high levels, with the 8GB phone selling for around $800 and the 16GB selling for more than $1,000. In fact, one auction closed $2,325, according to Macworld.

Funnily enough, some bids are even coming from countries that do not sell the iPhone. However, Apple hopes to expand the iPhone’s availability from 20 countries to 70 countries by the end of the year.
