iPhone news as well as rumors has been pretty steady over the past two days. Tim Cook, COO of Apple reassures attendees at Goldman Sachs Technology Investment Symposium that everything is on track for launch of the iPhone in June. He also restated the objective of pushing 10M iPhone in 2008. Analysts seem to be very giving Apple a “buy” status. Others have even stated that the market underestimates the potential success of the iPhone. What’s more interesting is Cook’s statement that “free phones are worthless.” I wonder if there’ll be backlash from the mobile community.

This piece of news just came in earlier tonight, but it’s still worth mentioning – JAJAH claimed/confirmed that they’ll be launching JAJAH Mobile Web, a VoIP service for the iPhone, requiring no downloads, installation or contracts. iPhone owners will be able to make VoIP calls directly via the JAJAH’s website. Wow-wee, how cool is that?

Nokia exec, Jonas Geust had a few key things to say about the iPhone. He commented that 4GB/8GB is sufficient for music, but more is need for videos along with other crap owners may want to store on the iPhone. Geust also thinks 2.5G or EDGE is too slower for consumers. He also said that while Nokia heard some positive feedback, some people noted having issue with keeping the screen clean and one-handed use is difficult.

Remix news: Business Week proposed that Apple ought to launch a venture capital fund allowing Apple to fund its vision for the future without having to make awkward acquisition. There’s an interesting story over at Reuter where the iPod has been elevated to pop art. Do you remember Steve Jobs’ partner in crime – ‘Woz’? Well, macnn has a piece regarding ‘Woz’ recounts his love for computer. It’s worth a quick scan. Stuff.tv has a nice hands on video walkthrough of the Prada Phone.

That’s it for this edition of My iPhone rewind & remix. Please continue to support My iPhone by sending in your news tips!

Attendees at the Goldman Sachs 2007 Technology Investment Symposium Conference were reassured by Tim Cook, Apple’s COO that the iPhone is on track for launch in June. Apple website also revealed the support of Bluetooth 2.0 and EDR – this is music to accessory vendors such at Etymotic (maker of ety8 Stereo Bluetooth headset).

If you have not seen Scott’s write up about “some hands-on time with the iPhone, “ make sure to check it out. It makes for a good reading.

Apple files patent for “cover flow” preventing copycats.

It looks like the iPhone is on the up and up, because Goldman Sachs thinks it’s going to shake things up for the mobile industry. I’d say that’s a pretty good call on their part.

Ok, my remix of the night brings some interesting stuff. First up is this video of the E-TEN M600 Pocket PC. It’s literally pr0n for all the Windows Mobile fans hard up for an iPhone UI look-a-like (tops the “Best damn iPhone skin for WM5 (almost)“. As you will see in the video, the icons are just shortcuts to applications. However, that’s really nothing compared to the screensaver and scrolling. Just like the iPhone, the screensaver lets you slide your finger to the right to unlock the phone.

Watch the iPhone interface running on a Pocket PC [Via iPhoneBlog.de]

In a not so good news for T-Mobile subscribers, the company bars third-party software. As Wired so eloquently puts it:

Borrowing a page from Apple, which has declared non-Apple software will be verboten on its touch-screen Jezebel, T-Mobile appears to have decided to block unapproved third-party applications from accessing the Internet via their phones. Blocked apps include Opera Mini, Google Local and Mobilcast.

T-Mobile’s justification: it’s a security thing. The work around is to NOT buy your phones from T-Mobile; instead buy unlock phones and use it on T-Mobile. Complainers report that many banned apps work fine.

Nathan’s got the right idea that the hearing impaired can use the iPhone to communicate with co-workers, friends and family members – if only the camera was front-loaded. Why Apple, why did you have to put the camera on the backside?

<strike>I’m going to close out today’s remix with this freakish video iPod ad (by Hot Sauce Academy, NOT by Apple!). Warning, it’s not for the faint of heart.</strike> Looks like we were too late, the video got yanked for copyright claimed by Apple. The gist of the ad depicts three people dancing around then one of them shoots one down, and then blow the other dude’s brain out. Then takes an iPod out of his hand. It’s a cruel world we live in.

Fast-forwarding, I’m still waiting for response from the company on some fact checking before I can run the next UI article I’ve been telling you about. I’m also working on a review of the Gennum nX6000 Bluetooth headset and the Etymotic ety8 Stereo Bluetooth headsets. These two reviews should be up in a few days.

In today’s news, Quantum publicly denied preparing suit again Apple over the iPhone’s screen technology. A video surfaced, demonstrating an iPhone-like cover flow for the iPod. The tipster didn’t reveal when we can expect the firmware.

I’m relieved someone passed along the song played in the iPhone ad, hitting the tube last during the Oscars last night.

There’s a rumor folks living in Europe may see a 3G version of the iPhone as early as January of 2008.

Some remix news around the blogosphere: Computerworld’s Haskin thinks Apple might be repeating Newton mistakes. I disagree with Haskin; Apple today isn’t the same company that launched the Newton way back when. Another rumor claiming World of Warcraft will be available for the iPhone. Techworld thinks Palm is doomed! Apple TV is delayed to mid-March?

The iPhone ad verdicts are in. My iPhone ran a poll when the first Apple iPhone ad “Hello” ran last night. Within a 24-hour period, 221 visitors voted on how they rate the ad.

Results:

30% or 67 visitors really dig the ad and thought it was hot

24% OR 56 visitors gave the iPhone ad an above average rating

21% or 46 visitors gave it an ok rating

11% or 24 visitors thought it was average

6% or 13 visitors gave it mediocre rating

7% or 15 visitors thought it’s crappy – how shocking, perhaps these folks are Windows Mobile fans

I had asked whether Apple was going to advertise the iPhone beyond the Oscars, and the answer is yes. I saw the ad towards the end of 24 tonight.

Fast forwarding to tomorrow, I’ll have some time to write up the article demonstrating a new user interface that’ll knock your socks off – and no it’s not the Prada or iPhone. So stay tune.

I’m closing out the day with a video from Catherine of ShinyMedia – giving us a brief walk through of the LG Prada phone. The user interface is mighty sleek. Enjoy!
