iPhone charging desk lamp, Skyfire browser coming, Antitrust over iPhone OS 4

The Most Talented Light has surfaced and the oddly named desk lamp has a charging station inside it. The thing can charge the iPhone, iPod, and notebooks.

Another new browser may be landing on the iPhone soon. The browser is called Skyfire and an iPhone version is being submitted to the App Store.

Rumor is circulating that Apple may find itself at the center of an anti-trust investigation by the DOJ or FCC. The reason cited is the tightened iPhone OS development rules essentially making devs use Apple dev tools only.

iPhone grabs 40% of smartphone ad market

One of the ways that the popularity of online devices is measured is by looking at browser usage and the percent of the ad market that they hold. The iPhone is now sitting on 40% of the mobile ad market according to AdMob.

The iPhone has grabbed 40% of the market in only two years while market share for devices from Nokia and RIM are losing ground. The caveat to these numbers is of course that the figures come from the ads that AdMob itself serves and not the whole market.

Still the numbers are very telling. The iPhone isn’t the only platform growing its market share. Android has grown to 7% of the market and webOS grew from naught to 4%.

Trend Micro’s browser for iPhone

Anti virus company Trend Micro recently launched their own browser app for iPhone and iPod touch called Smart Surfing. The company claims that it’s the first secure browser to provide enhanced Web threat protection for these devices.

If you attempt to access a bad or malicious URL, Smart Surfing is designed to block access to the URL and a notification will appear in the browser.
