Remember how I said yesterday that my favorite iPhone game, Aurora Feint had been removed from the iTunes App Store over security concerns? Well, it’s back folks! I downloaded the update and all security bugs are fixed. And though the installation took longer this time (and rearranged the layout of my apps, grr!) it seems to be running better.

Plus, a brand new intro video gives players better insight into the RPG element of this game. The creators are sure to note that they do not take information off of your phone without your permission. This is done during the community “opt-in” form, but you can always opt-out of this as well. More puzzles have been added and many bugs fixed.

Sounds to me like the developers took this set back and made the best of it and then some.

Okay, I’ve collected myself. So what’s the problem? Well, it turns out Aurora Feint has some serious security issues. Nothing malicious, mind you, but a security threat, nonetheless. In order to keep track of other players online, the game uploads your entire contact list to the server. However, this transfer of your data occurs unencrypted–which poses a big risk to your personal information.

After discovering the security hole, Apple removed the game from their App Store. But now it seems the game is back in the review stage after the developers added HTTPS in order to encrypt data.

What I want to know has to do with the version of the game that’s still on my iPhone. I never opted into the community feature, but how will Apple deal with those that still play the unencrypted version? Will a reinstall take care of it?

Okay people. I admit it. I’m obsessed. Not only has downloading iPhone Apps become a favorite pastime, I also can’t stop playing Aurora Feint. This game was a free app and I was blown away. I mean, for a free application, this game has great graphics, sound and game play.

Aurora Feint in action

It starts out like your standard Tetris or Bejewelled, requiring that you line up three like-colored blocks before they are eliminated. However, you quickly realize you can do much more with this game than its predecessors. Flip the phone in any direction and the blocks feel the force of gravity, providing you with more options. Then, leveling up grants you new powers and abilities. You level up by earning enough crystals in order to purchase new powers. There’s a mini-map and everything. However, it seems a big update is in store, wherein MMO attributes will be added and a story line interwoven according to the Aurora Feint FAQs.

The only downside is the way this intensely graphic game drains the iPhone’s battery life. But, that seems to be a problem with most of the applications. Oh, and this game is a big time-waster. I mean it, people. Hours can be lost with all the block breaking!
