iPhone 3GS already shipping?

Reported due in stores on Friday, some users are revealing that shipments of the iPhone 3GS have started. As we know, both Apple and AT&T have promised placing online pre-orders would be effective on the same day the new iPhone goes on sale in their retail locations.

Kevin Hanson, one of the buyers who got the shipment notification, wrote in his blog:

NICE! I should receive my 32GB white iPhone 3G S by this upcoming Friday. I’l actually be on vacation until Sunday, so I won’t get to open it until then.

Available in black and white options, the iPhone 3GS costs $199 for the 16GB model and $299 for the 32GB model.

iPhone 3G Available at All Apple Stores

Well, it looks like that whole iPhone 3G availability issue can finally be put to rest. Just like many thought, once the initial mad dash to get the new model subsided, availability would go back up to normal levels. And it looks like all the Apple retail stores have plenty of stock to keep up with demand.

AT&T stores, however, aren’t fairing as well. That’s because they are still filling back orders placed two weeks ago and simply do not have enough stock to fill their shelves.

If you want the black 8GB model, however, you may have to search a bit harder, as only about 57% of the Apple stores have it in stock at the moment. The 16GB models, however are much more plentiful.

Apple Stores Using Ticket System for iPhone 3G

Well, it looks like Apple is doing its best to accommodate the massive demand for the iPhone 3G. And though stock is still dwindling, they are implementing new practices to make your trip to the local Apple retail store a little bit more manageable.

For instance, the stores are now opening at 8 a.m. Monday-Saturday. Plus, workers are passing out tickets to people in line that are redeemable for the type of iPhone 3G they want. This way, you can leave the line and so long as you come back before 6 p.m., you’ll get your iPhone. Plus, while you’re waiting, you can go through the “pre-qualification” process, which allows you to do the paperwork and credit check prior to purchasing the phone. This way the counter area doesn’t get clogged up.

This is a pretty good way to help people go about their lives as normal without having to wait in line all day. But what about that dedicated community factor? There’s something about waiting in like for an iPhone that I just can’t describe. Whether it’s trying to figure out who’s buying them to hock on eBay or who really just loves the technology, the whole thing is an experience, to say the least.
