…here we are with a truly integrated MMS experience courtesy of the all-powerful hacking community. Granted, there have been MMS apps available for ages, but there’s a difference: this is the same action 3G and 3GS owners are getting in conjunction with OS 3.0, which Apple curiously decided to hold back from original iPhone owners.

A member of Hacking0sh forum revealed a tip on how MMS on 2G (OS 3.0) with default SMS/MMS app:

For install copy mms2g.deb to iphone in folder, for example /var/root

Then in same folder (/var/root) in terminal input: dpkg -i mms2g.deb

Reboot

or

Extract files from Patch.zip to iphone to folders same as arhive. For CommCenter chmod 755.

Reboot.

Engadget reports that a source has told it that iPhones have been approved by the PCS Type Review Certification Board in capacities of 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB. The 8GB and 16GB offerings are certainly no surprise, we have had those for a long time now. The 4GB is a bit of a surprise, that capacity went the way of the Dodo shortly after the original iPhone was launched.

Parts purportedly for the next-generation iPhone Video have appeared for sale on a Chinese wholesale site. Both screen bezels and LCD panels for the the third-gen iPhone Video are listed, with shipping expected to begin “within 5 to 12 working days”.

As well as the listings, there are comparison shots with existing parts for the iPhone 3G. While there’s no telling whether the parts are legitimate, the site – China Ontrade – does have a wide range of original factory components not only for the iPhone 3G but for various cellphone brands, MacBooks and Nintendo.

Close examination of the bezel suggests that the iPhone’s speaker has been pushed further up toward the top of the handset, either because the screen now occupies more room or, perhaps more likely, to make space for a front-facing camera to be used for video calls. There’s no sign of any OLED panels, as had been tipped for inclusion in the new iPhone Video.

The 2009 Wireless Consumer Smartphone Satisfaction Survey shows the phone taking the lead in most areas.

With a score of 791 out of 1,000, Apple excelled in all areas including operating system, operation, features and design receiving 5/5 stars. However, it received a 2/5 for the battery category. LG and Samsung followed with scores of 772 and 759, respectively.

Also released today was the 2009 Wireless Traditional Mobile Phone Satisfaction Study which showed LG coming out on top with a 733 score. Sony Ericsson followed with a score of 712. Interestingly enough, those who still used traditional mobile phones remain mostly satisfied, even though they know smartphones carry additional feature sets.

According to the latest leaks, Verizon and Apple are in discussions regarding a new iPhone for the carrier, which would be launched in 2010. USA Today quote “people familiar with the situation” who claim discussions between Steve Jobs and Verizon began a few months ago.

While USA Today suggest a CDMA iPhone would be the likely result, Apple’s recent financial conference call would seem to debunk that. During the call, COO Tim Cook dismissed talk of a CDMA iPhone because the CDMA standard is predominantly a US specification. Instead, Apple want “one phone for the whole world”.

What that could indicate, therefore, is a LTE (Long Term Evolution) iPhone, just in time to spearhead Verizon’s new LTE network set to launch in 2010. LTE has been adopted by not only Verizon but other US carriers – including AT&T – as well as networks worldwide, in keeping with Apple’s “one phone” intentions. What remains to be seen is how AT&T might react to the possibility of a super-fast new iPhone bypassing their exclusivity.

As well as the touch-sensitivity, LG are apparently also working on a display coating that will reduce or eliminate “finger marking”, which was observed as a significant issue in the Apple prototype. The OLED iPhone will be joined by a similarly-featured new iPod touch.

The OLED displays are part of a reported $500m deal between Apple and LG for panel production up until 2013. Apple has previously been rumored to be sourcing multitouch panels for a netbook or slate-style tablet device.

Two years late but better than never, the most-asked-for feature — Copy and Paste — is finally here for iPhone 3.0. It didn’t arrive as a surprise to us as it was disclosed by Digg founder, Kelvin Rose, couple days before the event took place. That, together with MMS support are being addressed at today’s Apple event.

To select text, users would double-tap on it to bring up the cut/copy/paste bubble above, then get a grab point at the end of the selection. For larger portion of text, use the double tap feature and slide your finger or thumb along to bring up a magnifying glass to show precise position, then highlight everything you want to include. According to Scott Forstall, it will work on all applications including the web content!

So Rose was right about the Copy-n-Paste but not his prediction on Multimedia Messaging Service. Apple went ahead to include MMS feature on upcoming iPhone 3.0 for photo, audio and contact files but no words on motion video. In a nutshell, iPhone 3.0 finally allows users to send multimedia files in the form of SMS (Short Message Service).

Today at iPhone 3.0 event, Apple starts off with Scott Forstall, the SVP of iPhone software, with details on the iPhone 3.0 OS and developer programs. First in line is the additional of a paid app — In-App Purchase – that will prompt you from within the software to buy an update such as a city guide where you can add individual cities, while the freebie version will not attempt to remind you for an update or ask to purchase additonal add-on in that app.

Next up is peer to peer connectivity with new APIs include tools to bring up nearby iPhones or iPod touches that would automatically identify running apps and create an instant IP connection with existing Bonjour technology, wireless over Bluetooth. A technology suitable for game apps but Apple says it works for any peer to peer app with quick fire connection without the need of Bluetooth pairing or typing in a password.

These little rays of sunshine wont be found in the App Market anytime soon, instead you have to have a jailbroken iPhone and search them out in Cydia.

The TVOut Project is an open source project brought to you by Backgrounder developer Ashikase. Released into the Big Boss repository you are now able to pick out the applications individually. Though this is available it is not without a few limitations, which is why Screensplitr comes into play.

Screensplitr is the other of the two applications that were released into the wild last weekend. This utility allows you to have full video mirroring which is available for the entire OS. This method however has a much slower framerate of only a few frames per second, which makes it very noticeable. Just tap the icon to switch it on and tap again to turn it off. These utilities are really very fun to play around with so we suggest trying it out if you have the right cable at home.

Sometimes watching videos or movies on your iPhone or iPod Touch can be tedious, especially when you’re sitting at home, on a plane or riding the bus. Awkward neck positions and tiring hands tend to take away from the overall experience of watching a film.

Now thanks to the iFlyz you can rest easy with your media player in a fixed position wherever you are. The device actually looks like a portable hands off car mount with a very small patented suction cup rather than a huge rack to hold the device. The bottom of the rig has a clamp that can attach to a desk, counter, coffee table, you name it. Bend and shape it to just the right position so you wont have to be hunched over to view your media.

Though this mount doesn’t appear to be compatible with devices that have a rough texture, it does claim to be iPod friendly so smooth surfaces should be no problem. Best part is this will only cost you $30 when car mounts cast a great deal extra.

Following rumors of the iPhone Nano the case manufacturer XSKN, Vaja has added an “iPhone Nano” listing to their website. Many case manufacturers have started to list and sell cases for the rumored iPhone Nano. Analysts also seem to believe that Apple will release a cheaper iPhone in the first quarter of 2009. Softbank has also released a voice translation tool for iPhone. The application can translate up to 1,500 spoken phrases mostly centered on travel/tourist situations and basic communication.

Mat Brady has come up with an iPhone idea that has 60GB of internal memory, slide-out keyboard, true 16:9 screen ratio with 640x 360 resolution. This concept design is being called the “iPhone ELITE.” We have seen a few iPhone camera lenses out there, but they all require bulky cases and never seem to work very well. USB Fever has come up with a magnetic set of lenses that can be attached without the air of a case.

Kraft Foods has released the iFood Assistant iPhone application. This app provides users with 7,000 recipes, each with its own video demonstration. iFood Assistant also gives users an editable shopping list for gathering ingredients from the grocery store. Spatial View has finally released their Wazabee 3DeeShell for the iPhone 3G. This “shell” has a lens that claims to allow users to see the screen in a unique 3D view. Man there has been more than enough third party keyboards out there for the iPhone. This latest one we have stumbled upon folds in half and is packed with features.

The 2008 Best App Ever Awards have come around and we urge you to take the time to go over and vote for your favorite application. There are 34 categories that the applications are voted on ranging from the eponymous “Best App Ever” all the way down to “Best Free or Ad Supported Game.” The PSP-like iControlPad for gaming on the iPhone has finally made its way to production. Now we will soon be able to play games with physical buttons.

As promised the iPhone Dev Team has released their iPhone 3G unlocking tool entitled “Yellowsn0w.” This unlock ban be downloaded via Cydia on unlocked iPhones. A pink iPhone 3G hit Ebay this week sparking all sorts of rumors. It was not long after it popped up that we found out that this is only a pink case that looks surprisingly like the phone itself.

iPhone owners in colder climates have always wanted to be able to use the iPhone with gloves to avoid freezing their fingers off. Apple has filed a patent on gloves that contain a special tip that can mimic the electrical conductivity of skin to trigger a response.

We must admit the iPhone’s camera takes a pretty decent picture, but for some that is not enough. Some people are paying up to $100 for a case that has a built in lens. This makes it hard to put on and remove. Luckily for us USB Fever has come up with quite a pleasant alternative that works for anyone.

USB Fever is now offering three tiny magnetic lenses that do not and unnecessary bulk that is hard to put on and remove. One lens is a wide-angle lens, the second a telephoto and the last a fish-eye lens. All of which magnetically cling to a supplied self-adhesive metallic ring.

You can also use these lenses with any webcam or small lens camera such as the iSite. The wide-angle has a .67x zoom with Super Macro, while the 2x telephoto lens does exactly what you’d suggest. The fish-eye lens offers a 170-degree fish eye view in four groups. Even if you are not a professional iPhne photographer you can pick up these three lenses for $16.99 each.
