We were so happy, all the software part was done, so we started opening the iphone. The antenna cover was a bit tricky but eventually it came off. Then we started to open the metal cover (after taking out the 3 screws) and PUFF, up it went in smoke, I think my collegue must have touched something. It literally went up in black smoke. I was so hot that when I tried to pick it up I burnt my fingers. So, this is for sure the most difficult part of the whole process. I don’t know what he did, as I had just stepped out of the room to fetch something when I heard a scream…they got such a fright.

This one is even quite humorous if I do say so myself. It is regarding a gentleman and his bricked iPhone.

There are some pretty clever uses listed for a bricked iPhone if I do say so myself. I could think of a few more though, probably not quite as funny though.

You open the application on your iPhone and there is a bar at the top that has a start button, while, running if you will, the start button turns into a stop button. One button functionality and you are off and running.

The boys over at Giz have already come up with a wishlist for new features including a bigger button, variable speeds and intensity, pulsing action, and video/audio playback while in action. They also recommended a laser show, but that one might be kind of hard and or require and external attachment.

I’m now trying to think of other unusual materials you could make an iPhone replica out of.  Obviously there’s going to be a huge market for ice iPhone sculptures at geek weddings, and maybe a large polystyrene iPhone that children could use as a boogie board at the beach.

Starting off with good old-fashioned mingling, the tech-happy singletons then refer to a platter of iPhones each bearing the photo of their owner.  Those you’d like to rub docking cradles with you send a message to; if they agree, they add you to your contacts.

So far so weird, but then you end up listening to people like Barry Faig, a “speed-dating regular”:

“I’ve been added as a contact to more iPhones than I can keep track of… The ladies love my fresh pimpin’ style and my dope ass photo helps too”

Were I a cruel man I’d suggest that they add you so that they can avoid you via caller-ID, Barry.

Made by Voxifera.com, the webpage seems to pick a random US phone number which is automatically dialled when you hit the big green ‘Shuffle’ button.  So don’t expect to get somebody from your phonebook!

I suppose it makes a change from seeing Windows error messages on ATMs.

Considering all you really get for your money is a small amount of grey powder, there’s no reason why you can’t make your own homage at home.  In fact, it’s probably easier than making a papercraft model of the iPhone, and doesn’t require parental supervision with the scissors.  Just tip a small amount of iron filings, gunpowder or Soviet-era flour into a bowl and tell friends that you stumped up the cash online.  You’ll be talk of the town!

All humor aside, the Surface is a revolutionary product that shows us just how important touchscreens are going to be in the future. With a hefty price like $10,000 we probably won’t see these popping up all over the place, but I think it shows us where technology is headed.

A quick survey of 5 local AT&T stores in my area were actually split down the middle. Two of them informed me that it will be considered a PDA, thus the $39.99 Media Max Unlimited Plan is the lowest we can get. Two told me that they don’t consider the iPhone a true PDA, it is a smartphone, thus the SmartPhone Connect Unlimited w/Xpress Mail will suffice. The other store told me that they did not currently have any information regarding the data plans for the iPhone and referred me to their customer support line.

I called the support line and they informed me that they have not received any information whatsoever regarding the data plan for the iPhone. He even suggested that they may introduce a new plan, but he really had no idea.

I hate to break this to you folks, but most in-store reps that I’ve talked to know less than we do about the iPhone. It’s very doubtful that they’re going to be trusted with this information before Apple or AT&T announces it.

Granted, he does point out some of the major flaws with the iPhone. Such things as the design being too modern, unlike some of the more sophisicated Motorola phones. (see above) Also, the UI is much too simple for it to be taken seriously in the business world. He claims that the simple interface makes it usable by anyone, thereby diminishing the ‘elite’ status of its users. I also agree that Apple really needs to step up their marketing of the iPhone. Jud conducted a survey and found that 9 out of 10 people in South Alabama hadn’t even heard of the iPhone. That’s just embarrassing.

Even though you’ve discovered some giant flaws with the iPhone, you could at least have the common courtesy to keep them to yourself. We don’t take kindly to people that don’t take kindly to the iPhone.
