Another iPhone 3G ad bites the dust in the UK

Wow, the advertising conditions in the UK are pretty strict! An Apple ad was pulled earlier this year, but now another iPhone 3G ad was pulled from UK TV because it apparently exaggerated the performance speed of the iPhone 3G.

The ad shows the iPhone speeding along between web pages and other applications super fast, but the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received complaints by 17 people that the ad was misleading.

Sure, the phone isn’t really that fast, but hey they have to fit in a bunch of information in just 30 seconds. Actual load time does not bode well for spiffy advertising promos. And what sort of ad would be successful if all it showed was a web site loading? That’s not exciting. Anyway, I thought this was ridiculous. What do you think about it? New ‘Game Changer’ iPhone ad is up

Even though the big Apple event on Tuesday was focused on MacBooks, the company still found time to put out a brand new ad for their iPhone 3G. Keeping in line with their latest advertising, this one focuses on an individual app.

In the case of this ad called “Game Changer,” the focus is on the app put out by Major League Baseball. Even though the app has been under a bit of scrutiny lately due to its season-only functionality, Apple certainly knows how to be timely.

Even so, if you’re looking to find out all the latest baseball information as it happens, there couldn’t be a more perfectly-tailored app for you. I wonder what app Apple will make the focus of their next ad?

ASA Council says iPhone ad is misleading

We’re in the age of nit picking, it seems. Recently, two viewers filed a claim with the Advertising Standards Authority in regards to a new iPhone 3G ad that says all of the Internet is accessible on the device when, in fact, Flash and Java are not.

The ASA Council ruled in favor of of the two viewers and now Apple must change the ad if it is to be shown in the UK again. Now I get what these people are saying. Certainly Flash and Java are integral components of many websites. But is the ad outright lying? I don’t think so.

The idea here is that you can book a hotel, check the weather and the stock market on your iPhone. That is, perform day-to-day on the go tasks. And while Flash and Java are a part of the Internet, it seems people are just looking for problems now.

The iPhone 3G will launch in multiple countries on July 11th, with prices starting at just $199 for the 8GB version. That gets you GPS, 3G HSDPA, a slicker casing and all the iPhone 2.0 functionality you could want.

New iPhone adds demo Music Store, WiFi Location & conning your friends

Apple has released three new iPhone commercials on their site today, titled ‘Bet‘, ‘Brilliant‘ and ‘Music Store‘ and focusing on the semi recent functionality upgrades to the cellphone as well as a possible benefit of having the full internet in a mobile device. ‘Bet’ addresses the latter, suggesting how the iPhone could help you win money from (but not the respect of) your friends; ‘Brilliant’ demonstrates the iPhone’s new location-centric services, including WiFi triangulation.

‘Music Store’ deals with the iPhone’s on-device WiFi music store, showing how users can access samples of tracks, search and browse through the catalogue and then purchase and download individual tracks or albums to their handsets.

UK Firm Rents iPhones

Looking for a brand new iPhone, but can’t afford the plan and the phone itself? Rent one out. A company out of the United Kingdom, erento, rents hardware, tools, cars, and appears to also rent out iPhones. They’re supposedly brand new, but they wouldn’t be opening a new package every time somebody rented the iPhone for a day, so they’re probably used, but in perfect condition. Picking up an iPhone for rent will cost you a cool $50, or £29.

Macmall 2007 Black Friday Sale

Straight in line with all other stores on Black Friday, Macmall will be giving up to 22% off on select Apple products including Notebooks, iMacs, Mac Pro’s, Mac Mini’s, and the full range of iPod’s on Thursday the 22nd (Thanksgiving) and Friday the 23rd. There doesn’t appear to be any discounts on iPhone’s though. A sale of 22% off could mean some major savings on notebooks or other Apple computers.

Looks like Macmall will be the best place to pick up some deals on Black Friday, though we’re still waiting to see what the Apple store has to offer, it most likely won’t top the 22% Macmall is giving.

Apple Black Friday Participation

This year the Apple store is participating in the day after Thanksgiving holiday Black Friday specials. It’s a one day sale, most likely with small discounts on most of their products. Be sure to check the Apple store on Friday the 23rd to see what you can scrounge up.

Hopefully they have some wicked deals on iPhone, iPod touch accessories, and the iPhone and iPod touch themselves.

AT&T gets their hand in iPhone advertising cookie jar

And I feel dumber. Sure, these new commercials do a good job of showing how regular Joe’s would make good use of the iPhone in their everyday lives, but I like Apple’s approach better, some nice calm music in the background and then start with the showing off of what the iPhone can do with a calming voice narrating.

The Apple approach keeps it simple and shows technical people, like me, what the device can do. The AT&T approach seems like a futile attempt to sell a $400 phone to an average person, I am not saying the average person has to be technical to appreciate the artistry of the iPhone, just the average person has to have good credit and $400 to pony up for the device.

Here is a link to an ad featuring a gentleman by the name of Stephano, i think he sums up one of the biggest advantages of the iPhone pretty well.

I live in Crawfordsville, IN it’s a town of about thirty thousand yet we manage to have 3 AT&T stores, I used to work at the busiest gas station in town, which meant I saw a lot of the population of Crawfordsville, you want to know how many iPhones I have seen in this town? One, the one I convinced my friend to buy, want to know why I think that is. The average person doesn’t have $400 to spend on a phone. So, nice commercials AT&T and I am sure they will net you a few more souls, but maybe from here on out you should leave the ads to Apple.

New iPhone Ads

Apple just launched some new advertisements for the iPhone. People are basically spreading the word about how much they love their product from Apple, and not to mention they are pretty persuasive. Apple really shows off the phone in situations when you need information fast simple and efficient.

They show how useful the iPhone is compared to normal cell phones. Things that you can do in a flash with the iPhone vs. 3 min. using a regular device. Apple will “touch” a lot more cliental with these new ads I’m sure. Especially for the holiday season coming up.

Apple Posts 3 New iPhone Ads [via Newlaunch]

New Apple iPhone ads push pros of mobile connectivity

Recently added to Apple’s site are two new iPhone adverts, titled All These Years and All the Parts. The former, shown below, is directly aimed at potential business owners of the handset, asking them how they’ve gone through their busy, suit-wearing, briefcase-toting lives without carrying instant stock updates and email in their pockets.

The latter, ‘All the Parts’, looks more at the internet functionality of the iPhone and how mobileSafari brings the full web experience (with the obvious exception of Flash) to consumers on the move: weather, traffic, “can you afford it” and more. Both videos are typically Apple-slick and well made, although they don’t tell us anything about the handset that we didn’t already know.

It’ll be interesting to see whether these new ads do anything to increase business market penetration of the iPhone, where it has so-far struggled without official Exchange compatibility and under the shadow of various reported security issues (which, admittedly, plague many mobile devices).

iPhone sighting and an ad not made by Apple

It seems like Walt Mossberg isn’t the only lucky dude roaming freely with the iPhone. The anonymous iPhone guy in this picture was caught using the iPhone in broad daylight; not even bother to conceal it in anyway. The shot was taken aboard the Caltrain, which runs between San Francisco and San Jose.Let me put your mind at ease that we won’t be running too many of these iPhone-sighting articles. The novelty wears off after the first ten or so.

My buddy Dan sent over a pretty nifty iPhone ad made by fans living in NYC. It’s catchy and fun to watch, so enjoy.

Apple sends out new iPhone email

I just opened my email to find a new email from Apple. It’s basically just a friendly reminder of the June 29 release and a summary of the features.

There really aren’t any new features listed here. But if you don’t frequent iPhone sites like this one, it’s a good little summary.

I don’t recall hearing this before, but you will need to have an iTunes account to even set up your iPhone. I doubt that’s going to be a big deal for anyone, many of the people looking to purchase an iPhone have already purchased music from the iTunes store. The full email is below.

The objective of this ad is to show off the iPhone’s fantastic web browsing functionalities. Despite what you may have heard about Safari on the iPhone, it is for sure a full version. With that you get the real Internet, and not some half-ass mobile web browser.
