With the iPhone covering more ground around the world, results of the sales are starting to come in. During 2008 alone, the iPhone brought a $300 million revenue boom to Apple from Australian sales.

Financial documents recently submitted to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, detail the rapid growth of the company. Flagship stores were in Sydney, NSW and Melbourne, VIC. While Apple’s laptop market stands at around 5%, when the iPhone went on sale on 11 July last year, it accounted for 5.8% of the Australian phone market.

The numbers speak for themselves where:

Revenues grew 34 per cent on last year’s total of $846 million to reach $1.16 billion

Gross profit in 2008 of $118 million, up from $105 million in 2007

After-tax profits of $35 million, were up from $20.9 million

Since Apple’s 2006 report to ASIC the company has also doubled its local headcount from 322 to 629

Mind you, compared to 2007 Apple still managed to keep a lid on staffing costs, rising just $6 million from $22.6 million last year to $28 million in 2008

Normally when rumors about a company are being leaked or speculated about, they go to great lengths to cover them up or squelch them fast. But not Apple. In fact, during the Q3 financial results conference call yesterday–besides noting they had sold more Macs than they ever had before–Apple confirmed that big new things are coming in Q4.

CEO, Steve Jobs, noted Apple was “busy finishing several more wonderful new products to launch in the coming months,” and the CFO, Peter Oppenheimer commented that revenue would only be going up, saying “we expect revenue of about $7.8 billion [in Q4] and earnings per diluted share of about $1.00.”

But of course, the tech-hungry are hanging on that mention of new devices coming at the end of the year. And while a change up to the MacBook line up is probably eminent, other products could also be on the horizon, like a larger iPhone-esque PDA or even a Mac Tablet. Oh please, oh please let it be a Mac Tablet!
