Nokia has lost its overall market share leadership in the worldwide smartphone segment to Apple in mobile ads share, BNET Technology reports. According to statistics from AdMob, Apple's iPhone received 49 percent of ad traffic in May, compared with 32 percent for Nokia.

Mobile ad network AdMob will launch new ad formats for the iPhone, optimizing social networking, search and rich media display advertising on the Apple's device. Hitting the market July 1, the new capability will be available for both the iPhone's Safari browser and within iPhone applications.

It's a good news for developers (as well as advertisers). Developers could optimize a new app to enjoy traffic exchange in the Admob network, which so far claims covering more than 1,000 iPhone apps. The mobile ad network company will be launching an iPhone App Exchange later this month.
