A report claims that for each iOS device on the market about 60 apps are downloaded. The same report shows that the cost of the apps will effectively tie many users to Apple devices so they don’t lose their app investment when changing.

Sister site SlashGear ran down the top apps for iOS using students late last week. The list of five apps covers all sorts of useful offerings and some of them are even free.

A cool sticker for the back of the iPhone 4 has surfaced that makes it look like an old Polaroid instant camera. The sticker leaves the lens and flash uncovered and should keep scratches away.

Yantouch has unveiled a crazy looking iPhone dock that appears to be a concept device called the Black Diamond. The dock works with an app to bring colors from the screen of the iPhone into the room.

Ten One Design has unveiled the latest version of the Pogo Stylus for the iPhone 4. The stylus still works with the iPhone touchscreen and has a clip that can be used as a stand to prop the iPhone up in portrait or landscape modes.

If you are one of the folks that likes to use your iPhone 4 to make movies and shoot photos you have probably wished for a tripod at some point. The new Glif iPhone 4 tripod is perfect for these folks and it will hold the iPhone at various angles. This thing looks cool and is in the process of raising money to start production.

The iPhone PayPal application has a new and very cool feature for those that like to add money with checks to their accounts. You can now take a pic of the front and back of your checks and the money will be deposited in about six days without a trip to the bank.

BusinessWeek has taken a firs t look at the new iPhone game Top Gun 2. The game offers air-to-air and air-to-ground fighting in multiple aircraft with seven missions. Apparently, the game looks really nice and is available for $3 for a limited time.

The Official Star Wars shop has offered up a new case for the iPhone 3G and 3GS that is sculpted to look like R2-D2 from Star Wars and it is way cool. The case is about $30 and available right now.

The WildCharge works via connecting the zero-profile conductive strips on the base-plate with contact-point nubs on the back of the iPhone case. What’s special about it is the fact that you needn’t line up the phone with the strips; just placing it down at any angle is enough.

There are a few apps, quirks and possible scams out there that encourage those with too much money to blow it on literally nothing. One example is the “I Am Rich” app, which for $999.99 you can get a glowing stone to appear on your screen. That is all it does. (Apparently it does bring good fortune, luck and health. For a grand, I’d rather buy shoes, three outfits, go to a movie and fill the car with fuel, that makes me feel lucky!)

As for the diamond phone, the case is made out of solid 18-carat yellow, white and rose gold. The iMM173 works with the iPhone however only on the right-hand dock. It has been noted that on the first occasion of docking your iPhone a warning may appear. The device may state that it is not an iPhone-compatible accessory and you need to enter Airplane Mode to disable the phone functions. Standardization of any gadget is great for the consumer, although high-margin charging accessories are huge revenue generators for companies. CNET reports that if there is a shift to Micro USB, Apple said, “sorry guys; this is bad for business. You can be idiots, but we’ll pass.” Apple did agree to move to Micro-USB for charging however requiring users to use the 30-pin proprietary connector for syncing and accessory compatibility.

The trade association has the idea that by 2012, virtually all cell phones and hopefully all Bluetooth headsets, will have the same connector. Posts of compatibility of connectors are everywhere, Geardiary builds a conspiracy that is hard to argue with. It would seem clear that a shift to Micro-USB is about saving space in building the device and stop the need to buying an assortment of adaptors. Kindle 2 has shifted to Micro-USB for charging and data transfers, so can we see next-gen MP3 players, digital cameras, camcorders and portable game consoles doing the same? I already have a bucket full of USB connectors. Each work only with the one gadget they were originally purchased. Standard connector – yes please!
