You read that right, you don’t even have to alter any hardware, firmware, or download any software to do it. It’s a build in glitch with both the voicemail and phone call functions.

The phone call version of the hack is to make or take a call, and then while the call is active open the iPod application and start playing either music or video and as long as you were using a Bluetooth headset for your call, you should also hear the music in your headset. The only downside to that method is it requires an active call.
Another method has been discovered that doesn’t require an active call. You can go to the voicemail screen, touch the audio source button and select your Bluetooth device then open up the iPod app and start playing something, works the same way, but doesn’t require a phone call. Certainly someone is going to use this info and create a hack that either provides something closer to an A2DP profile, or at least makes the current hack easier, maybe both, but one thing is for sure, its nice to know the ability to transmit audio over Bluetooth is possible with the iPhone.

I don’t have an audio source button on the voicemail screen. What do you mean in that step?
i am told its in the upper left corner, i am sorry to say i dont actually have an iphone, so i cant be of much more help than that.
Go to you phone button go to your visual voicemail screen it is in the top right hand corner of your iphone says Audio only. a screen will pop up and if you are paired will say speaker, iphone, and the headset similar to when you make a phone call.
This trick works but, it does not turn off your external speaker on your iphone so the music plays through both your BT headset and your phone speakers.
Anyone know how to turn off the external speaker?
same place as your speaker button in visual voicemail when listening to a voicemail. Just says audio when you are not listening to a vmail.
I also figured out that if you set up and audio gateway with your computer and go to voicemail tap Audio and select your computer instead of your headset it will play through your computer. Also to use this feature you have to stay on the voicemail scree.
so has anyone figured out a hack to get bt stereo out of iphone? that’d be great!!!
just dial *611 and mute that then press the home button and go to music. Done. Then hang up.
1. make a call just to try headset
2. play a song.
3 dial +++
*just one problem, y listen music from iphone and headset( no problems with loop calls)
I paired my ihpone with my headset, then i made the call using the fast dial voice mail in the left lower side of the phone app screeen. went to ipod played a song and the sound of speaker stopped and i did hear the music on the bluetooth headset. but the call ended fast and the music stoped as well. how can i make a call last more. oh and the problem is that i could still hear the ringing along with the music.
I went to voicemail, tapped on audio, and selected my headset, however, how do I launch ipod app without pushing on the home button and exiting the voicemail app. I even tried launching ipod app first so that the music would be playing and then went to voicemail app and followed the same exact steps as mentioned earlier and I wouldn’t get any music on my headset. At this point you are probably thinking I forgot to pair my headset with my iphone, however, it was paired. So this method didn’t work for me.
iPhone 3G pwnage 2.1

thanks
I made this work by:
dial 611, and allow it to connect
select audio source blue tooth
click hide sources button
click hold button
go back to ipod and hit play
VIOLA!
the call is now on hold and music is streaming through. I tried this dialing into voicemail, but my service hangs up after a couple of minutes. The 611 feature works much better though. Hope this helps. Good luck.
I tried the voicemail route and it would not stream through the bluetooth. I then tried the 611 call on hold and it works great. I had my husband call me while doing this and I was able to answer the call just fine.
Thanks
So, okay. Why doesn’t apple just make the darn iPod play over bluetooth in the first place.
it would be a serious, serious marketing device for them.
The voicemail feature works great! I turn my bluetooth on, go to the iPod app and start a song. Then, I switch over to the phone and click on voicemail. Sure enough, the music begins playing in the bluetooth.
Awesome!
The voicemail thing does not work for me. Bummer.
I just upgraded to OS 3.0.
yep looks like 3.0 fixed the glitch
Yeah, I don’t seem to have an audio source button on the voicemail screen. I just got the iphone 3gs.
Least the 611 route still works.
yea, calling 611 or having someone call you, then going to your pandora (for the mytouch cell) and clicking play, then go back and put the call on hold and it the music plays through your bluetooth. good luck. Hope that helped the T-mobile customers with the G1 or mytouch phones
how send music from computer to lg991
The 611 trick still works with Iphone 3Gs, but when 611 stops, the bluetooth music stops also. Is there a way to make bluetooth music last longer?
This thing about going to the voicmail area and picking your audio source as the bluetooth and then being able to hear music from the ipod app on the Iphone 3Gs doesn’t work. Period.
Have to agree with Mark. The technique of going to voicemail and picking audio source as the bluetooth device DOES NOT WORK!
I’m pissed!
