Softbank revealed iPhone 3G price for Japanese market

While 90% of Japanese might not show interest for the 3G iPhone (Based on iSHARE survey), it doesn’t mean the upcoming phone from Apple will tank in Japan. Softbank, the carrier that will provide the 3G iPhone said it would be selling the phone at 23,040 yen or roughly $215 up to 34,560 yen.

Softbank might not be the mobile-carrier leader in Japan, but it has been catching up to the big guns like NTT DoCoMo. An analyst said Softbank would probably gain more lead by selling roughly one million iPhones in the first year.

iPhone running Windows Mobile 6? NOT!

Okay, this is not really an iPhone hacked to run WM6, but in China, there is a phone that looks awfully similar to the iPhone. It is identical with some minor differences. This is one of the best Chinese iPhone imitation I’ve seen.

The T32 is 15.5mm thick, with smaller screen at 3.1-inch (compared to iPhone 3.5-inch)
It comes with two camera (2mega-pixel) front and back. Just like the iPhone, it is not a 3G handset. Other features the T32 offers are Wi-Fi and A2DP Bluetooth 1.2.

So if you love the iPhone look, but have to stick with WM for whatever reason is, you might want to get this real good imitation a try.
The Chinese wholeseller Adrian Co.Ltd does not reveal any pricing information, however you can contact them for pricing.

Apple introduces iPhone in Germany

Yesterday Apple announces its partnership with O2 to sell iPhone in UK, and today Apple introduces T-Mobile as its partner for the iPhone carrier in Germany. The launch date for Germany will be the same as UK on November 9th. The iPhone requires a new 2-year T-Mobile tariff and will be available in an 8GB model for €399 including tax.

“We’re thrilled to be partnering with T-Mobile to bring the iPhone to Germany,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Customer response to iPhone in the US has been incredible, and we can’t wait to introduce T-Mobile customers to the most revolutionary mobile device on the planet.”

“We are convinced that we can get our customers excited about experiencing the mobile internet with the iPhone,” said Hamid Akhavan, CEO, T-Mobile International. “I am proud that Apple and T-Mobile have become partners. The best mobile device currently on the market will soon be operating on the best network in the country.”

iPhone Firmware 1.1.1 features uncovered

Many media outlet are reporting that the version 1.1.1 of iPhone firmware update is coming. Based on the photos posted by Engadget, there are some new features and settings will be available for the iPhone on this update.

- International Prefs – keyboards, region format
- TV Out – Widescreen, NTSC options, Closed Captioning
- Edge Roaming – on and off

O2 is officially the carrier for iPhone in UK

Apple picked O2 as its UK carrier partner for the iPhone. During the Apple UK event today, Apple announced pricing of the iPhone, and it is 269 pounds. They will be available in time for Christmas by November 9th.

So here is the roundup, no 3G on the UK iPhone (WHAT!!! yes, it is not a sick joke). However O2 has partnered up with Cloud to provide 7500 Wi-Fi hotspots to give iPhone user free extended data coverage aside from the EDGE connection.

Use your iPhone as widescreen iPod and WiFi device

Did you know you could activate your iPhone to use as Widescreen iPod and Wifi without contract? You do need to pay a $49.98 one-time fee. You have two options to activate your iPhone and keep it working as an iPod with Wifi.

Option one: Faking Bad Credit to bring up GoPhone contracless plan.

During the activation process, you will need to enter your sociual security number. Instead of entering a real social, try entering 999-99-999. It will then trigger GoPhone/Pick Your Plan option (prepaid). Pick the cheapest one available which is $49.98. After activation, you can take out your sim card and use the iPhone as widescreen iPod with wifi. Remember to cancel your prepaid plan.

Option two: Cancel your contract within 30 days after activation.

After your activation, you may cancel your contract without penalty within 30 days. Alex King has posted in his blog that he cancelled his contract and the iPhone still works as widescreen iPod and wifi device.

iPhone Battery Replacement Program

Apple posted iPhone Battery Replacement Program on its site today. iPhone owners with dead batteries can have it replaced for a $79 service fee and $6.95 shipping and handling fee.

Apple will replace the battery if only the iPhone shows no damages caused by abuse or accident. Apple warned battery replacement will erase all data on the iPhone and recommend users to backup their data using iTunes sync.

My iPhone is Hot! Literally Temperature Hot!

After coming home from AT&T store, I did an unboxing video of the iPhone. After that I plug it into the docking and connect it to iTunes. Activated my iPhone with AT&T and start calling people letting them know I got an iPhone.

I keep the phone plugged and sync my emails from a Macbook Pro. I went to the kitchen to make some snacks for movie night (it’s Friday!) and 20 minutes later Vincent calls, I picked up the phone call (it’s done syncing and ejected) and it feels hot, way beyond warm. I felt discomfort on my ear after talking to Vincent for less than a minute.

Is anyone else out there having the same heat issue as me? Please post it on comment if you do. I just hope I didn’t just get a DOA unit.

Update : It feels cooler now, a tad warm but nothing as hot as previously during the first sync.

AT&T limits iPhone sale to one per person while Apple store allows two

AT&T said it would limit iPhone sales to one per person during the launch on Friday. Apple stores is expected to do the same according to some reports on the internet, however Apple stores will allow two iPhones per person.

AT&T site shows this message “With iPhone arriving June 29th at 6 p.m. in AT&T retail stores, the wait is almost over. Use our online store locator to find the closest AT&T store that sells Apple iPhone (limit one per person). We’ll show you maps, directions, and everything you need to get your hands on an iPhone as quickly as possible.”

80GB iPhone on iPhone activation and sync video

If you watch closely to the iPhone activation and sync video Vincent posted earlier, you will notice the iPhone’s capacity bar shows 80GB of storage. While it’s not impossible to have 80GB of storage on iPhone, it’s unlikely at this time due to cost. 80GB flash drive will shot iPhone’s price all the way to the roof.

Does Apple really have an 80GB iPhone on their hand or they were using iPod to show the sync part of the video? That’s for you to think about :)

Parody : The ofone – Microsoft’s armor against Apple’s iPhone!

Yes, Microsoft has a plan. They plan to create a new phone handset to go against Apple’s iPhone and also being very creative with its prototype name by calling it the ofone (yeah right). The ofone has a round LCD screen at the center, and 3 twistable handles that will goes around the LCD screen like a boomerang.

Each of the swiveled body represents a function. The first one is a keypad, followed by a QWERTY keyboard and the last one is a music player control pad.
