Looks like someone has been busy over the weekend: an enterprising Australian hacker going by the handle of 'ozbimmer' tweaked his iPhone to make calls on their Telstra network, going so far as to post a video of the process on YouTube.  However despite his hard work, functionality is still limited to simply making calls; the handset can't receive them nor send or receive text messages.

iPhone Telstra hack

SIM card reader/writer - needed for this latest iPhone hackThe video has since been taken down, although it's uncertain whether that was because of threatened legal action from either Apple or their carrier partner AT&T, but the instructions are still available on the hackint0sh forum.  Aside from only being a partial-unlock, it's also not a straightforward procedure: you'll need a SIM card reader/writer as well as software to create a mutant SIM with information from both AT&T's and Telstra's cards.
