AT&T stores to have low stock of the iPhone

We've been speculating just how many iPhones we will be seeing in each store. WR Hambrecht & Co. has done a deal of the legwork and surveyed a number of AT&T stores and found out some interesting details.

They discovered that most stores were expecting to take stock of the iPhone on either June 15 or June 22, which once again proves that retail store employees aren't the best source for getting your release date info. They also found that most stores are only expecting to have a few in stock at launch. They didn't say what exactly a “few” meant, but they did say that the most one store was expecting was 40.

Another interesting fact is that 15-20% of the stores were keeping an unofficial waiting list for the coveted phone. As unfair as it might seem, you might want to hit up your local AT&T store and see if they are taking names. Since stock is going to be low, you might want to get your name on one of those lists.
