Those of you following the iPhone buzz on MY iPhone are mentally prepared for the coming of the Jesus Phone. How about financially? The arrival date is around the corner, is your finance in order?

Tentative breakdown cost for owning the iPhone may come close to the following for iPhone & service contract:
- $640 iPhone - $599 plus tax (~8%) - assuming you opt for the 8GB configuration
- $60/mo Voice Plan – this is the cheapest plan with unlimited nights and weekends
- $40/mo MEdia Max 3000 Bundle - includes 3000 texts and unlimited MediaNet
- $8/mo Fees
Grand total comes to: $1936.00 +/- 3% margin error.

well, a lot of you might get upset at me for this….but I just won a $500 Apple Gift Card by entering a video contest about the iPhone. http://www.insanelygreattees.com if you wanna check out who entered and the finalists, etc. BUt yeah so i’ve got 500 down, (MIGHT go for 8 gb) and I already have a cingular contract with all the minutes i need (chepaest one, 39.99) and i have a media max bundle with 1000 txts and i barely hit 800 each month. My plans are fine, and I don’t mind throwing another 2 years onto my contract. Im essentialy set….depending on if they sell it without a 2 year contract or not…..
I don’t think you did your calculation correctly. Are you calculating the plan cost for one year only? You’ll have to get a two-year contract.
In my case,
$499 iPhone (no sales tax in Oregon)
$149 Apple Care (you WILL want it)
$100/mo x 24 months decent minutes and unlimited data plan
$8/mo x 24 months fees
=
$3,240
This is compared to my current phone cost,
$199 RAZR + 7% Florida sales tax
$49.99 x 24 months decent minutes, no data
$7/mo x 24 months fees
= $1,543
I’m still hoping that we get affordable plans for iPhone, but even so, I’m completely dissatisfied with my current phone, so I’m ready to shell out.
That’s great Danny - congrats!
Yep neven, I was only calculating the cost for one year because Apple will release a new iPhone within that time frame. So looks like you’re opting for the 4GB configuration?
I wonder if AT&T will offer the Apple Care or we’ll have to purchase it through Apple. Looks like this damn thing is going to be really expensive!

There is no good reason for monthly operating costs of an iPhone to exceed $60.00 with data. The iPhone will be a niche item at the quoted prices. If this proves to be true, Steve has lost a customer.
I dont see whats yalls problem is. You are going to pay that much for a plan with a free phone as well. And now, cinglar has unlimited data and texting for 40 bucks a month, so thats not so bad. Cingulars plans are just as good as verizons or sprints or tmos so i dont get why yall are like, “oh i cant blieve i have to pay 100 dollars a month for unlimited data, texting, bights and weekends, and tons of minutes. You are going to be paying over 1000 dollars a year on a free phone so stop trying to put it off as the iphone being sooooo expensive compared to everything else over the course of a year.
I for one don’t want the unlimited data plan. I’d rather they disable the EDGE network and only let me browse when I’m near wifi. Otherwise, what’s so great about the wifi?
If I can’t get my iPhone with the same plan I have now with my free samsung, I’m not getting the iPhone. I’ll get a newer free phone!
