Apple will end its two year exclusive deal with O2 this September, allowing other networks like Orange and T-Mobile to distribute iPhone 3G handsets. But the Cupertino-based company will continue to give O2 exclusivity for iPhone 3GS.
The addition of a new network selling the iPhone will break O2’s UK exclusivity on the coveted handset, and will offer a challenge to O2’s prices and tariffs.
Sources said O2 has been furious with the news and is concerned potential rivals will undercut its prices on the older model.

Its about time the only reason I’ve not got an iphone is I refuse to pay an extortionate conntract with a network that doesn’t cover my house! I’m glad they’ll be challenged on their tariffs and I can finally get an iphone
Now that is the best news i have heard all day today. Its about time 02 lost the exclusivity on the iphone as they just wanna rip people of with there ridiculous prices and tarrifs and i hope the other UK networks undercut 02 and offer better deals for us important customers & also i hope people cancel with 02 and go with other networks once the iphone is available and i’ll finally get one too.
I am delighted to hear this. I hope O2 get completely undercut. At@t in the states are about to loose theirs apparently because the network is crap most of the time. In Ireland O2 is such a rip off.
