Apple tablet could hurt iPhone developers?





Despite there’s an upside for developers, the upcoming Apple tablet computer could have a downside for app developers, Forbes says. The problem? Inconsistency in term of developing app –especially related to the screen size and resolution of these devices.

If Apple rolls out a tablet computer, it could make building applications for its portable devices more complex. That’s because developers–who have built more than 65,000 applications for the iPhone and iPod touch–say one of the big advantages to developing apps for these devices is consistency.

    We’ll have to wait and see. I don’t think that Apple, and third party developers for that matter, will be totally unprepared. The article states that “Apple has long warned developers to account for the fact that, over time, the screen size and resolution they’re working with could change.”

  2. “hurt” developers?

    You mean increase the market for the devices that they can sell for?
    With likely minimal modification?

    Did they think that all iPhones would always have the same screen resolution?

    I think it’d be a bigger deal for those developing games now that there is different speed devices out there with the 3gS….

    The iphone is not a game console. This is something that we all already knew. It’s not the same to write a game for the iPhone, than to the iPhone 3G, and to the iPhone 3GS. And we expect new devices in the future.
