Overprotective of your shoe-leather?  Planning a cross-country trip and want to stop by an Apple store and pick up an iPhone on the way?  Well Apple's online stock-check has gone live, letting you know whether that elusive handset is in any store nearby or that you may have to wander further afield.

It's not real-time; they update the numbers overnight, and there's no actual indication of stock levels simply "yes, there are some" or "no, tough luck sucker".  You might get better results ringing the stores direct and asking how many they've got, but of course the staff are likely to be rushed off their feet helping customers in-store so they might not answer the phone first time round.

I imagine a fair few of those little green "in stock" indicators will be red by tomorrow night!
