Apple just dropped the fresh new iPhone firmware 2.2 into iTunes and not a minute too soon. We have been impatiently awaiting launch for days now after reading the rumored date of November 21st. Now we welcome it with open arms.

After the long 246MB download users will be booting their iPhone to new features such as Google Street View and walking directions, new Safari interface changes and fixes, the addition of emoticons, better sound quality in the visual voice mail department, and let's not forget the over-the-air podcast downloading. You probably won't be seeing us for a few days as we enjoy the new fruit that apple has delivered.
All in all Apple has really gone the extra mile with this update. But again we see smaller changes to things that we didn't previously care about. What we are still itching to see is the addition of features such as copy and paste and the standard MMS. We can't stay bitter for long though, we just have to keep our fingers crossed for next time.

Is it safe to update a 2.1 unlocked iphone edge?
Obviously will lost all jailbroken apps, but will it keep the unlocked baseband?
I wouldnt update yet until devteam or whomever unlocks it, its always a risk updating , I would recommend waiting because as much as tempting as it is , it could be the update that locks you until another successful jailbreak, from prior experience with the first iphone and version 1.2 and 1.3, DONT DO IT YET!
hey, i’ve already downloaded and booted in the 2.2 firmware and see some changes but how the heck do you use google street view? I dont see it anywhere. Theres the car icon, bus icon, and walk icon… only car and walk is useable, how and where can i find and use the google street view????
nvm i found out, and well… to be honest… it sucks! it doesnt follow you, it only shows you the google street view wherever you drop your pin. For those of you who do not know how to see the street view, drop your pin and click at the human figure.
Off I go to check it out.
Come on Apple, why do we need street view? Let it be googles deal to implement that in google earth app or somewhere else. Street view is the last thing i would need on my iphone!
At least i can switch off that damn autocorrection with the ridiculous suggestions. And podcast over the air is an up to date feature.
Yes Apple, you can do it, don’t let the iphone be a Stone Age mobile phone! I like the hardware, but don’t speak about the software…
I am glad that apple is continuing to update the firmware, but can they get some priorities straight? Like better integration with exchange calendar invites and some copy paste. I would love to replace my blackberry with an IPhone at work, but these basics need to be provided. Sure Street view is nice, but all its going to do is help me find the soup line if I lose my job because I missed a calendar invite.
Hey Apple:
1) Copy & Paste
2) MMS (www.viewmymessge.com REALLY sucks to use on this phone)
Both should have been in the initial 3G release. WTF?
I dont see any emoticons
I tried to update my 3g iPhone and it completely locked my device
Any suggestions on what to do?
What a waste of time – why not give us something useful? What a weak-ass update. It must be clear by now they are fucusing their resouces on the next phone – 4G or whatever they plan to call it. This recent “update” provides nothing useful – most people will have to be told about the “new” abilities because they are so insignificant you would not otherwise notice. As such and since it is unlikely Apple employees are sitting on their hands, they must be working on the next phone. Either that or they truly cannot figure out how to do “cut and paste”. After all this time if all they can impress us with is a button press to take us “home”-home, then we must conclude they simply cannot figure cut and paste out or they would surely have provided it by now. Too bad – although Palm appears to be letting go a large number of staff and since they have had cut and paste for decades now, maybe they can help?
now only flash and I am happy
Can’t download podcasts over 10 megs over 3g, so I probably won’t use that feature. If I’m desperate, I might stream an audio podcast. Streaming video podcasts over 3g doesn’t work too well.
2.2 firmware killed the middle of my screen non-responsive to touch. can’t dial 7, 8, 9
phone won’t hear beacon from wi-fi access point and can’t send sms text because the send button is in the dead zone on my screen.
they won’t replace my phone the lady said the more times you connect the phone to the pc you run the risk of damaging the hardware (what) …………..and for just a mear 200.00$ they can upgrade my phone…….ya……ok!
thanks apple and thanks at&t!
