Apple has been busy, but apparently they are hoping to get a lot busier. Word on the street is they are actually hoping to nearly double their current production numbers for the iPhone.
iPhone Production ramping up
The new plan sets the number at 2.7 million handsets to be produced this quarter. That means a huge increase from the initial 1.54 they were initially shooting for.

This could be due to Apple conquering the world handset market like it’s their manifest destiny, but its also a sign of a far more grim possibility. With all the talk that Apple is releasing a 3G iPhone, this could put the kibosh on that. Which is fine, since the way I heard it, Apple never said they were going to be producing 3G iPhones, they didn’t say they weren’t either, what I did hear was that it wasn’t going to happen until the battery life was higher.

No, they certainly did say they were coming out with 3G iPhones. Steve said it in the keynote announcing the iPhone.

the only two things he said in the first video of that article, is that 3G drains the battery too much, its not viable for an iPhone until they reach the 5+ hour talk time with a 3g chipset, and that they probably wont see that till late next year, he didnt say the 3 were going to come together late next year, he just said it wouldnt be a suitable technology for the iPhone till late next year
