Apple licensed Microsoft Exchange for iPhone, for real?

Sent from my iPhoneAccording to an article on Investor Village, sources claimed that Apple can and will make the iPhone compatible with Microsoft Exchange Server. Unfortunately, they were unable to speak to Apple’s plans regarding Blackberry and Good.

It’s possible for Apple to make the announcement as early as tomorrow, June 27 that the company has licensed the Exchange ActiveSync licensing protocol. If this holds true, it looks like Microsoft will get to cash in on the iPhone gold rush after all. So what does this mean for us iPhone (to be) owners using Exchange? We’ll be able to connect to Exchange Server and make use of its wireless messaging and synchronization capabilities.

Apple didn’t comment on this so-called “imminent announcement”, but Microsoft issued the following via a corporate spokeswoman:

“We can’t comment on (these) rumors. In general, Microsoft is always in discussions with other companies about licensing its intellectual property.”

Personally, I’ll be the first to petition for the availability of Exchange on the iPhone – how about you?

This is great news and will obviously be an announcement in coordination with AT&T offering the phone to it’s business customers.

    ..really great news…

I’m not jumping for joy just yet John. Why? Because AT&T targets the iPhone towards consumers and it’s categorized accordingly. So it won’t be AT&T that will offer Active Sync, but Apple.

Exchange Server synchronization is a deal-breaker for me… If it’s announced, I’ll be reaching for my wallet!

As I wrote here: http://www.robneville.net/rants/the-iphone-is-a-dud/2007/03/ this is THE thing holding me back from begging, borrowing and close to stealing $600 for one of these babies……if they figure that part out….oh boy!
