If you’ve been patiently sitting out the delay, now is the time to rejoice: Apple’s official iPhone Bluetooth headset is available for pre-order and should ship in an estimated 2 – 4 weeks. It’s not cheap, though; that clean styling will cost you $129, and of course since the iPhone doesn’t support the A2DP stereo headset profile it’s mono only and not suitable for listening to music. Still, there are a couple of things in the box that might help make up for the omission.

As well as the headset itself – which weighs just 0.23oz or 6.5g and is crafted from anodized aluminium – you get the iPhone dual-dock (a desktop unit which has a slot for both iPhone and Bluetooth headset) and a travel cable which can charge both devices from a USB port. One and a half hours is all it takes to top-up the headset’s LiIon battery, and Apple claim that’s good for up to 5.5 hours of talk-time or 72 hours of standby.
About the iPhone Dual Dock
Here are some ways you can use the iPhone Dual Dock:
- Connect the Dual Dock to your computer with the attached cable, then place your iPhone and iPhone Bluetooth Headset in the Dock to sync the iPhone and charge both batteries. No more reaching behind the computer to plug it in.
- Connect the Dock to an electrical outlet using the Apple USB Power Adapter, then place your iPhone and iPhone Bluetooth Headset in the Dock to charge both batteries.
- Connect the Dock to a stereo or speakers using an AV cable or a stereo audio cable to play music from your iPhone.
- Enjoy clear audio during speakerphone calls thanks to special audio porting.
About the iPhone Bluetooth Travel Cable
This handy cable does double duty: It syncs and charges your iPhone or iPod, and it charges your iPhone Bluetooth Headset. Just plug it into a computer or an Apple USB Power Adapter.
