Is the iPhone the 10-percent of features other, less Jesus-like handsets are used for, distilled into one Ives-designed body? That's what Apple appear to think, with a spokesperson dismissing criticism that the cellphone is missing some of the more mundane functionality users take for granted will be present in rival mobiles.
"We didn't want to include something for something's sake ... For the average mobile phone most people only use around 10%, Apple didn't want that to happen with the iPhone" Apple spokesperson
In a statement to Pocket-lint, the company acknowledged that some users had been critical of Apple's feature-set choices, but maintained that these were all minor elements that could be readily added in.
"All the complaints and feature requests we've had can be fixed and added by software upgrades" Apple spokesperson
Nonetheless, many will point to the two firmware upgrades the company have released since the iPhone's US launch, neither of which has unlocked significant new features such as improved Bluetooth support for hardware other than a mono headset, or MMS picture-messaging capabilities. Instead, critics are beginning to suggest that Apple's primary concern is not augmenting the iPhone's capabilities but remaining a half-step ahead of the Jailbreak and unlock community.
I sure wish people would stop using company names such as ‘Apple’ or ‘Google’ as if they’re plural. Apple is a company – a single entity. It should be “… Apple appears …” and not “… Apple appear …”.
I noticed this started about a year or so ago, and at first I simply dismissed it as one person’s lack of understanding of the English language. Now I see it every day and it’s become really irritating.
If you want to use the plural, then simply say ” … Apple employees appear …” or something to that effect. I hate to appear like the grammar police, but this is really getting out of hand.
