UBS analyst Ben Reitzes had the chance to attend a meeting with Apple execs Peter Oppenheimer, David Moody and Eddy Cue where they discussed a range of topics including the iPhone.

UBS iPhone estimate

The big news is that the Apple execs were confidant that the iPhone will not only be released according to schedule, but there will be plenty of them to go around. According to Reitzes he got the impression that Apple will introduce “new models and partners for the iPhone in Europe and Asia within a year." Unfortunately he doesn't give us any details to back up that claim.

As much as I would love to take these statements to heart and tell you all that Apple will be shipping out enough iPhones for everyone by the end of June, I can't do that anymore. After Apple told us that Leopard was on schedule for release shortly before announcing that it would be delayed until October, I can't really take those kind of statements to heart.

As long as there will be enough of them for me to get my hands on one on launch day I’ll be happy.

I second that PoitNarf.

Apple/AT&T are goign to have to release alot of logistical information in the next few weeks. There’s still alot of looming questions in my mind as to how this will be handled.

How will the signup process work? Will I have to go through the credit check and phone# porting steps at the point of purchase? I just can’t see apple having this going on in thier store. It would be much simpler if they just sold the iPhone to you (since there is no subsidy) and let the customer iron out these details through iTunes/AT&T customer reps.

And then there’s the plans. What type of service plans will we have?

I won’t be taking anyone’s word that there’ll “be plenty” of iPhones to go around. I have a sad suspicion that I’ll be camping out in front of Apple store the night prior the launch.

I don’t mind a few hours of waiting outside if need be… it just better not get all PS3 (I don’t think it will though).

At least you can find a PS3 now… A Wii is still very hard to come by. I say it had better not repeat the Wii situation.
