The camera is on the "outside" because there will be no "video-chat" in the version 1.0 (remember, Apple NEVER delivers all your dreams in the first place, they want you to buy a new product every 12 months!). Why not a full-size touch-sensitive display? First of all: power consumption. Second: there where rumors before, that Apple has problems with this. Remember the iMac. Apple's designers would never let this pass. Overall it's a nice design using the information from Apple's patents, but it's a bit on the large side.
