Analyst – iPhone to increase AT&T subscribers by 1 million in 2007, 3.5 million in 2008

According to equity research analyst Mike McCormack, AT&T could see their number of subscribers increase by nearly 1 million users in the second half of this year.

McCormack notes interestingly enough that the iPhone will likely draw an equal number of users away from Sprint and T-Mobile, but slightly less from Verizon. He cites that Verizon has more brand loyalty than the other two. “Factoring in the impact of the iPhone, we believe AT&T will capture 31.6 percent of total industry net adds compared to 29.2 percent for Verizon.”

He calculates that by the end of 2008 AT&T will have increased their number of subscribers by 3.5 million from people switching for an iPhone. Some people are thinking that AT&T might have gotten the short end of the stick on this bargain. If these numbers hold true, I think AT&T will have done well for themselves.

What do you mean by AT&T might have gotten the short end of the stick on this bargain? Maybe they should charge more but didn’t? Not as big a dent in consumers as they thought they might? Sorry, I’m not following. when it’s explained… I’ll probably feel even more stupid. ;-)
