A quote you’ll regret making soon

You probably read somewhere that Verizon turned down Apple’s offer to exclusively carry the iPhone. But have you seen the quote made by Verizon Communications president and chief operating officer Denny Strigl? I agree with Mike that it’s the Jackass Quote For All of History.

Verizon Communications president and chief operating officer Denny Strigl said: The iPhone product is something we are happy we aren’t the first to market with.

  1. Brendan says:

Nah, the best quote in relation to the iPhone before it came out was made by Palm CE Ed Colligan, he said: “We’ve learned and struggled for a few years here figuring out how to make a decent phone”. “PC guys are not going to just figure this out. They’re not going to just walk in.” Ha ha ha! Fucked royally.

  2. I agree that quote was also silly, but still doesn’t hold up to the Jackass Quote for All History :).

  3. Strigl made a similar mistake that Terry Semel, CEO of Yahoo made back in 2002. He had a chance to merge with the geeky boys of Google, yet he told his staff, “there’s no fucking way we’re going to do this!”

Keep in mind that Google today controls nearly 70 percent of the search-related advertising market, an industry worth more than $15 billion a year and growing roughly 50 percent a year. I bet Semel is pissed off as hell – because this could have been Yahoo!

In a years time, Strigl’s face will turn the color of Yahoo’s purple logo.
