6G iPods on production line next month

Still reeling from the news that the 6G iPod may not be the all-singing, all-dancing widescreen touch-sensitive video jukebox of wonderfulness that people are so desperate for, insider news that Compeq Manufacturing has won the contract to manufacture PCBs for the new PMP does little to excite us.  Still, it gives an indication of launch schedule; small-scale production will apparently begin in August and then ramp up in September.

Those same sources have also fingered Compeq for some of the high-density interconnects and rigid-flex PCBs (wires and boards, people, wires and boards) inside the iPhone.

It’ll be interesting to see how Apple position this next-gen handset, what with the iPhone billed as “the best iPod ever made”; what might be more interesting than what they choose to put into the mixture is what they decide to leave out.

This iPod is just ho-hum. In my opinion, these new UI features don’t warrant another $300+ on a new iPod.
If we’re talking about an iPod with touch-screen, then it’s worth the money. But for some stupid upgrade that includes a new clock and new music navigation, I’ll use the $300+ on some more worth while.
