It's amazing how a product can be outdated before it even hits the market. Ok, the iPhone won't be outdated when it hits the market, but potential European customers may have good reason to put off their purchase for a few months.

I am of course talking about the recent rumor that Apple will release an update to the iPhone that will have full 3G capabilities in January of 2008. That's only 7 months after it is set to launch in the European market.
So if you lived in the European market, would you get the 2G version of the iPhone when it comes out around September, or wait until January of 2008 to get the 3G capabilities?

European and Asia are spoiled with 3G - they’ll balk at anything non-3g. Unlike the US, the 3G infrastructure strong.
And we in the states will be getting the 2/2.5G iPhone. That is like buying a pre-intel Mac.

A fitting analogy, the pre-Intel Macs were great, but once they had Intel chips, there was no looking back.
