Alex, I’d really take that article with a grain of salt. I have personally use both a Garmin (don’t remember the model but it was a $1700 one) and an iPhone (first gen NOT 3G thus NO GPS) to navigate by and the iPhone spanked the Garmin hands down. Garmin couldn’t even find Boston Logan International Airport. The Garmin units are nice to an extent but I’m not an idiot, I am perfectly capable of following directions on my own. When I get to the next turn I can click next and it gives me the next directions. Oh gee, it’s soooo difficult. Or even easier, just put it in list view. I use the Google Maps feature all the time and while it’s not perfect, it’s really, really good.

From the brief test I did at the Apple Store, the GPS didn’t really seem to do anything different for accuracy. Maybe because I was inside a big building but then again, I’ve never really needed to know EXACTLY where I was. If I did, I could always look up at a street sign, DUH!

You missed the fact that owners of the original iPhone also download applications after having upgraded to 2.0. At least I did. :)
